you could try acidophillus (good bacteria), almost sure to help if you get a high strength one.
get tablets, not yogurts (much better/contain more bacteria)
get a good brand like solgar or higher nature and you will get better results than something cheap like holland barrat own brand. try your local health shop.
if you do concieve they will not harm baby, if anything they will help baby gut.

The doctor might prescribe Diflucan for you and your partner to take at the same time - if you're not both treated together, you'll just keep on giving it to each other. I used to get thrush all the time whilst using a diaphragm but now I have a lovely Mirena coil, it's totally gone.

I used to get thrush all the time and cured it by changing my boyfriend! Probably not the most practicle solution for you though ....

Satine's point about treating your dp/dh is good though, my ex never got treated and I think he kept giving it back to me.

I've also noticed that you can now get 'own brand' Diflucan from the chemist which is about 1/3 the cost of Diflucan.

When I went to the Dr he just checked there was no underlying reason for the recurrant thrush and then said I was OK to just buy over the counter stuff as it was easier for me than going to the Drs all the time for prescriptions.

when you dont have enough good bacteria in your gut the bad bacteria can easily take over. if you take some good bacteria they will "win" and you will end up with lots of good ones and less bad ones. (sorry, not a great explanation, it tooo early!)
i own a health shop and lots of customers have said it is worth paying extra for a really good brand as the cheaper brands dont give as good results.

you could also try some echinacea. it will boost your immune system. it is also anti-bacterial and anti-fungal.

also drink at least 4 pints of water a day and cut down on sugary foods.

There are other things that produce the same symptoms but can't remember what the 'other things' are. My Dr took a swab and sent it away to confirm it was thrush.

will try to get a good explanation at work later, but basically even though they live in the gut they have an effect on loads of other things going on in the body. I have had great customer feedback on this, from people who have suffered for years.
will give you a decent answer later (when I'm not so tired, my excuse is a sleepless night with ds)

i remember when i had mine for 4 yrs one after the other and was getting fed up, going back and forth to docs, changing a couple of things.. but it cleared when i got pg (and same to my vercuccas i had that for 4 yrs too)... the way i see it is that i was so unhappy at work and my body was slow at healing up so it was the stress that was bringing on the thrush all the time.. now im not stressed, the thrush and vercuccas had gone for good (vercuccas healed themselves)

my friend and her DH were treated for thrush, but when she managed to see a gynaecologist, turned out to be exczema! definitely see the doctor now to make sure that you are correct about it being thrush!!!

this might explain better than I can (it is from Bioforce)

Candida can also be the cause of infections such as thrush, which is one of the most common reasons for a woman to see a healthcare practitioner. It causes itching of the genitalia and is often accompanied by a thick white discharge. Severe infections can lead to inflammation of the tissues of the vulva, swelling and bleeding.

This type of infection, whilst most common in women, does occur in men. It is often harder for a man to admit to symptoms, such as itching or soreness at the tip of the penis, or a white discharge. It is also possible for a man to carry the infection whilst suffering few or even no symptoms himself. It is, however, important to treat it, as the infection is easily passed on to his partner. If a woman suffers with repeated attacks of thrush, it would be sensible for both her partner and herself to take action to restore their internal bacteria to a proper balance, in order to rid themselves of the problem once and for all.

The recommendations for anyone trying to beat candida and internal fungal infection would include the following:

Diet

It is sensible to avoid the types of food which candida loves and on which it flourishes. Unfortunately these also tend to be the types of food we all love, such as sugars and refined carbohydrates. However, avoidance of these foods can give great results, and is important in combating the problem ? and it?s not forever, just for six to eight weeks in order to get on top of the problem.

Supplements

Lactobacillus acidophilus is important. These are the good bacteria which are meant to live in the bowel and urinary tract, helping to prevent the overgrowth of candida. Thrush occurs when these friendly bacteria are overpowered by their unfriendly counterparts.

try an homeopath , theyre brilliant at gettin g your body to right itself and rebalance itself therefore not allowing thrush to happen which is a imbalance of good/bad bacteria..my dd suffered for two years from thrush/candida..and went to specialists etc to be told it will go on its own and its a girl thing!!! tried every cream etc and no difference ..i went to a homeopath and it cleared up in 10 days.how do you explain that..im all for homeopathy and haelping your body to rebalance itself therefore allowing it to self heal..does that make sense as im probably gabbling on here.visit a recommended homeopath not over the counter remedies as they treat the whole person holistically not just the symptom..hope it helps..

btw, Frost's advice is excellent - I took acidophilus when had to have IV antibitics in labour with ds and didn't get thrush (whereas any antibios usually trigger it with me).

Frosty, which acidophilus powder OK for a 15 month old on antibios? And how to you get them to take it? Sorry for hijack, Spod.

Solgar ABCdophilus

this is the one were use. It comes in a powder which you add to milk/formula/yoghurt and is completly tasteless. only need 1/4 or 1/2 teaspoon.
give at a different time of day to antibiotics (or they will be destroyed immediatly by the ab's!)

Higher Nature and Biocare also do a good one for infants.
