How do I get dd to take bitter medicine?

DD (19mo) has a chest infection and has been given Clarithromycin to take. It tastes horribly bitter and she cries for ages after having it.

Had anyone got any tips for making it a bit more palatable for her? The nurse told us not to mix it with anything as the medicine curdles and dd is refusing to have chocolate/juice etc after taking it.

Hope someone can help!

Is that the slightly lemony tasting one? When ds had to have that we mixed it with lemonade which both disguised it and turned it into a treat as he's not usually allowed fizzy pop.

Otherwise use one of those plastic syringes to get in then chocolate tp take the taste away.

no, not lemony tasting, I licked my fingers and it truely is foul and gritty. We've been using a syringe so have managed to get it into her so far but the taste seems to last for ages.

Can you get them to swap it for one that isn't so horrible? I thought they usually gave kids the 'not too bad' ones.

No, they said she needed this particular type. I was surprised it was so horrible considering it's for children.

I think we found our own solution this morning though, I mixed it with a couple of teaspoons of Organix Fruit Doubles and she ate it with no problem and the medicine didn't curdle so hurrah!

Thanks for your help.

I think my friend's ds is on this medicine and she spoke to the pharmacist to check that mixing it with sugar is ok...and it is! If it helps to get the med down why not?
