I suppose I'm gonna be pilloried, but I'd still go, just keep to yourselves 1st 2 days.

How poorly is he, emma? He might be quite a bit better by Tuesday if it's a mild dose?

he is fine in himself. just a bit spotty, mainly his tummy.

Now this is where I'm never sure of my facts but I thought that once the spots where scabbed over you were no longer infectious. If that's the case, if you're sure no more spots are appearing, and they usually come up within two days if I recall, they will be scabbing my Monday and you'll be okay to go.

misdee · 10/12/2005 21:17

i'm going against what pweople may say and say go! by monday he should be scabbing over, as long as you keep indoors for the 1st day or 2, untill he is completely scabbed over you'll be fine. just keep him occupied with dvds and comics

hope he feels better soon.

Yes Kbear, when the spots are ulcerated they are infectious but after they have scabbed they are fine. DS got it really bad, they were in his mouth and all over his privates, he was in agony.

Hope your DS gets better soon TE.

i wouldn't go. your other ds could be infected, and aren't they contagious before the spots appear?

not worth it. for one you may end up with 2 poorly kids. and you may infect other peopel! it can be really dangerous for pregnant women for example...

i'd be really cross if i was on holiday with people whose kids had chicken pox

Thought it was measles that was dangerous for pregnant women?

Oh yeah Herpes, I remember that one being dangerous.

Both my kids caught chicken pox one after the other, chances are your other child will catch it TE.

If you have insurance you should be covered for cancellation.

Even if your ds is scabbed over by then is it likely your other ds was exposed at same time ? If so he could yet come out with it and be contagious while you are there. If 2nd ds gets it in meantime, really don't think you should go. I came out with it on holiday one year and was cooped up in a caravan all week but would have been contagioous beforehand.

I wouldn't have been at all happy if someone had knowingly brought a contagious child in contact with mine. Bear in mind there are probably going to be mainly families with young children there who are generally less likely to have had it and won't appreciate getting it in time for Christmas/New Year.

ds1 has already had it, so im pretty sure he is ok. will see what ds2 is like tomorrow before i make a decision about going, he hasnt had any other spots appear all today, only the ones from yesterday are still there.

Way back in the 70s we went to Butlins when my brother had chicken pox. My mum kept him well wrapped up (even though it was July!) so no one could tell! We laugh about it now, but I'm not sure I'd be happy if my ds caught it on holiday!

If DS1 has already had it and DS2 has a mild dose I would defo go (but keep him away from the public areas for a couple of days)

misdee · 10/12/2005 21:40

i got german measles on holiday when i was about nine. i actually had it the whole time, but as i had beengetting heat rash for the 2yrs perviously we thought it was that, but it wasnt. i spent the last 2 days in the chalet.

If ds1 has had it and ds2 is definitely on the mend by then, then agree with Janh.(Assume you have both had it !?)

if i have to sit in with him at home, then surely i can sit in the villa with him while dp takes ds1 off on activities etc? £450 is a lot of money to lose.
