Purple/pinky blotches on legs of child, come up in the last hour, look like bruises !

Am on the phone to MHS direct as we speak but have been on hold for about 10 mins.

My first thoughts was menigitus as it does not fade under a glass, they look like bruises and do not hurt when pressed.

There are 10-15 of them on his legs only. most seem to be the size of a cigerette end, circle shaped although 2 are about 4 times that size.

He is perfectly well in himself, at the moment he is munching his way through a pack of biccies.

any ideas?

Hello

I would just go straight to A&E!

Am going to take him to A and E.

He seems perfectly fine, is happy and laughing but he is too precious to risk.

Hi, we are back from the hospital now, ds was fab, i am very proud of him. He has an infection that has a long name which i cant remember but will be fine. If the rash spreads or he seems ill then i have to take hm striaght in as it can affect the kidneys but he is happy and seems his normal self and is now fast asleep. Thank you for caring xxxx

Glad he's ok. Is it the same thing another poster's ds had a few weeks ago?

Tamba · 04/12/2005 11:47

I think it might have been, i very nearly called her last night to find out what it was her ds had then realised it was late and i didnt want to disterb her so i didnt.

He seems fine this morning, the rash is still there but he is his normal happy self. I am glad i took him though as its better to be safe than sorry. Dh had to come out of work to watch ds2 though (my mom had him till dh could get home) and so his bosses arnt very happy with him but it couldnt be helped.

Back off to the hospital in a minute, ds has started to get tummy pains and has diarrioah and the doctor said if he starts to get poorly then to bring him back in as it can mean that the infection is spreading or something. He has {linkwww.netdoctor.co.uk/diseases/facts/purpura.htm\this}

another long night at the hospital then!

Just to add sympathy. I had this when I was little, but the only thing I remember is the joy at getting out of school sports for a few weeks.
I've never had any repercussions from it; hope your ds is the same.

Tamba, I do hope you little one is better soon. The tummy ache he has is mentioned in the list of symptoms on your link, so I really hope all is well.

Tamba - read your post and wondered if it was purpura ?Ds had this last yr,just before Christmas - noticed weird rash -like bruising on the backs of his legs which looked awful - he was fine in himself...we took him to our nearest private place (Casualty Plus) and they weren't brilliantly helpful,in fact it really frightened me - took him next day to our doctor who immediately diagnosed purpura, probably caused by a cold...he was fine, but I have to admit to being terrified by the whole thing. Hope your ds is ok...

Was a crap night last night, we went to A&E and were seen by a doctor who sent us to see a childrens doctor, we waited for ages and finally got to see him - what a waste of time!

I handed the doctor there notes (both kids were ill) he didnt even glance at them, every time i tried to speak he talked over me he listened to there chests and looked in the ears and then said 'give the calpol' and when i looked shocked and said 'arnt you going to look at there notes?' he said 'no no they need calpol' grrrrr

anyhow, both boys are still unwell and after being at the hospital til late they were awake all night. Am taking them back again if they dont pick up today. I dont care if the doctor is annoyed to see us back - its his job and i dont think he did it properly!

Its called Henoch-Schönlein purpura and normally self heals but there can be complications with the kidneys etc so the bloody doctor should have at least have done a urine test instead of blabbering on about calpol! Will be taking them to a different hospital if we go back!

Bad luck Tamba and yes it was the same as the previous poster. Maybe there should be more awareness of Henoch-Schonlein as it sounds scary if not usually serious
Hope they are both better soon, you get some sleep tonight, and as for that doctor
