lots of smoke in living room advice please

today i put the fire on and that was fine but when i wen to put more coal on it there were flames and loads of smoke comeing out it (its a closed fire) dd was in the room at the time and the whole room filled with smoke very quickly. i got her out and took her to a neighbours till it was sorted but now her eyes are really puffy and bloodshot and dont know what to do

It will die down I'm sure.Give it a day or so. (Was the chimney blocked?)

the plate had come of its ledge and wouldnt let the smoke up the chimney
