Itchy Bum!

My 6 year old son keeps complaining of an itchy bum, tonight he seemed to be getting quite distressed by it.

After reading up on the net I have checked for threadworms (eww!) but as far as I can tell there is none... he does have some tiny spots around his bum though...

do any of you have any experience of this?

If it's especially bad at night, and really really itchy, it's very likely to be worms.
Have you looked with a torch? They're quite hard to see.

That's my experience anyway.

could it be exzema? (sp-too much wine!) my dd has an itchy bottom due to that. The cold weather is usually enough to bring it on

Always wise to look out for worms. But ds2 complained of an itchy anal column last week so he put a dab of sudocreme on it and it sorted it!!

If it's particularly at night it's more likely to be worms. Two of mine have had this, one dose of that medicine which you drink (the first time it was prescribed, the second time I bought it over the counter) has dealt with it straightaway.

Would agree its likely to be threadworms... I was cursed with them over and over as a child. Yuck. But its easier to poke around for them in some poo than to see them in situ. And they stop moving quite quickly after hitting the fresh air. I cant believe I feel I know enough about worms to comment. I truely am a mother
