What could be wrong with me?

I've started to feel really run down, and I felt just like this over the summer. The main trouble is that I get a feeling of terrible motion sickness, and even when I'm sat still I can get dizzy and feel really sick. I had my eyes tested about six weeks ago on the advice of my doctor, but my eyesight is perfect, and now I'm fed up of it. Should I start taking some kind of supplement to boost my general health, or could it be a specific problem thye haven't picked up yet? I'm really fed up of never feeling entirely well

Go back to the GP. Your feelings of motion sickness could be an ear infection or labyrinthitis, but you would need the GP to check you out and diagnose it.

Have you had blood tests to check for anaemia, thyroid function and diabetes? They can all cause you to feel tired and run down.

It could be vertigo type thing like labyrinthitis - I had a while ago and it lasted several weeks, you could have a severe bout?

If you stand still, with your eyes closed, does it feel like you're doing flips, IYSWIM? Or even have a hard time standing up? If so, this could be your inner ear going wrong. I'd go see your doctor, or a different GP if you're with a clinic?

Could be lack of iron- you could start taking iron supplements. Boots stock a wide range of 'tonics' which are good for a 'pick me up'. Are you getting enough sleep?

GP wouldn't give me a blood test, I have no idea why not. She did mention likelihood of something wrong with my ear, but didn't find anything, and gave me anti sickness tablets, but they didn't work. I don't want her to think I'm just whinging, which is how I feel when she can't actually find anything wrong It's really affecting my life though, I've got essays due in next week but when I sit and try to work I have to lie down because my head feels like its on sideways

NQC, that is exactly how it feels! Why wouldn't my gp be able to pick this up with an ear exam? Is there anything that can fix it? I am not sleeping incredibly well, no, but thats because I'm not physically tired at the end of the day because I've felt sluggish all day anyway, iyswim

Littlelamb, then it's probably labyrinthitis - the question I just asked you is the test for it, IYSWIM. I don't think they can see the problem by looking in your ear.

Actually, labyrinthitis is more of a description of the symptoms, than a description of the problem. I'd go back to the GP for more help. There are drugs that are meant to help with severe labyrinthitis - CD would know more than me, as she's had a severe case, I think.

(I get mild cases after head colds. Never had treatment, as it's generally not bad enough, normally only lasts a few hours.)

I'd say get referred to an ENT specialist to check for labyrinthitis, vertigo etc

Go back to the GP and tell her that this has gone on for too long and is badly affecting you. I had the vertigo thing earlier in the year and had some pills for it. They were of the "we dont know why these work but they seem to variety". They did work. But as others have said this could be something else so demand that the GP gets it fixed.

there's something called the Epley manoeuvre which you can use to help alleviate the most common form of vertigo (if it turns out to be that)
here's a programme I made on hearing/balance which has some stuff on vertigo in it

~Try some travel sickness pills over the counter from the pharmacy.
