Is there anything I can do to help my DD

She keeps coughing and cant seem to clear the mucus. I have given her tixylix cough and cold - the orange one. Also some ibuprophen for her teeth. She is suffering so much from the both at the moment. I guess this is why she isnt eating. Also should I give her milk formula instead? She seems so hungry yet wont eat.

Thanks

Raise the head end of her bed at night and run a humidifier(or wet towels on radiator) or vaporiser in her room. Found Tixylix uselss but Medised might help.

I could but I would have to wait a few more hours as I have already given her Calpol at 4.15 on the way home. If she wakes later I will though.

Her nose isnt running this time so it must all be running down the back. sorry tmi

you could try raising her cot when she is in it and karvol, on cloth or in vaporiser but she may need to be checked by the gp if she has a bad chest could be she might need some help to clear her chest..

There's a thread on here tonight about Medised. I've given it to my dd - 8 months - tonight as she has a bad cough and cold. It dries up the mucus that causes the cough and helps them sleep. Tbh cough syrups aren't really any good.

Steam might help - run some hot water into the bath to get the bathroom steamy and take her into the bathroom to breathe the steam for a while. Or steam up the kitchen with the kettle.

She has been coughing even when her head is elevated.

She seems fine during the day time when she is awake. Just coughs when sleeping.

Snufflepuss - yes I read the thread. I am already converted to medised. I just thought the tixylix would be the right thing to use for a cough. Not a runny nose. In anycase I couldnt give her the medised due to her already having had calpol earlier.

When I spoke to the Pharmasist at Boots today he said most cough medicines are just glycerine to coat the throat and that you need to dry up the mucus to stop the cough, which is what Medised does. I've tried a variety of cough mixtures on DD1 but none have really worked, so am a bit sceptical about them. Hear what you are saying about Calpol - maybe try it tomorrow night ?

Thanks snufflepuss I will do. Makes sense really and covers the teething pain.

She is all settled and quiet now.

Hope she's better soon. Mine is still coughing away after her Medised but hasn't woken - fingers crossed. BTW she is not eating much in the way of solids or taking much formula but I am trying to make sure she drinks more water. Possibly has a sore throat too ?

I think DD would take more milk if I offered it but Im not sure if that is the right thing to do.

Hope yours feels better soon.
