Any doctors around? Can I take citalopram with clindamycin?

Arrgh, having a nightmare ... am on 20mg of citalopram a day but have developed a MAJOR tooth infection and need root canal treatment. Have been given clindamycin anti-biotics to try and help with the infection in the meantime - but what I'm not sure is whether or not I can take these with citalopram. I realise I probably need a doctor to tell me yay or nay but just wondered if anyone on here might know! Need to take some nurofen too ..... Sad

Nurofen not really recommended with SSRIs like citalopram.

Will check the clindamycin for you in a mo

No interaction listed in the British National Formulary for the clindamycin with citalopram - so as far as I can tell, no known problem.

Pain relief wise - can you take cocodamol instead? Iburofen and similar have an increased risk of bleeding when taken with SSRIs - an occasional dose unlikely to be a huge problem though IME

I have looked after patients on both meds and have never heard of issues

Thank you very much for that! Has put my mind at rest, will carry on popping the anti-bs although am going to call or see my doctor today for a chat. Shame about the nurofen! Will talk to him about trying someone else.

Thanks, again for taking the time to respond in my hour of need! Smile
