Barking/crackly/chesty cough with no other cold symptoms.

Had a chestyish cough a few weeks ago that came on all by itself, with no cold symptoms at all. It went after a few days.

This week it came back and is worse. It alternates between being a chesty, barking, crackling cough and is quite persistent.

Twice this week I have woken in the night and been very slightly wheezy, but not enough to make me feel unwell, and I am not ill in any other way.

Just wondering really if I need to do anything about it, or if it is likely to dissapear on it's own.
Also is it odd to just get a cough without getting a cold ?

I don't smoke btw.

yes, it is odd. however, its possible that you did have a bug, just wasnt particularly bad and youd idnt realise youd had it.
however. I think you need to get yourself seen to make sure your chest is clear, and its not a sign of something else. they need to listent o your lungs when you breathe to make sure no fluid in them, also, coughs shouldnt last more than i think three weeks but i might be completely wrong on that number.

go see a doctor, or a nurse practitioner, and let them listen toyour lungs whilst you breath.

you mentioned being wheezy in the night...

do you have a history of asthma? if so, I'd book a review... if not ?worth mentioning to gP for investigation....

sounds exactly like the chest infection that I have just had, and, fingers crossed, hopefully now seen the back of. Get down to your GP.

I am 7 months pregnant. Have a chesty cough( no other symptoms , no sore thoat or fever) which seems to really kick in aroudn 4pm and get worse until i go to bed. It also starts if i lie down but calms down after a while. SOmetimes my chest rattles and almost wheezes when i start coughing and its difficult to stop. The baffling thing is its not too bad at all in the monring early afternoon . In fact, irronically, when i went to the doctors this morning there was no sign of it and he said my chest sounded clear. Typically now its later in the day the cough is getting worse. I don't have a fever or anthing else. In the evening it feels like i have alot of phlem on my chest but its stuck in my lower chest. It is really worrying me due to my pregancy. I have chest infections in the past which have felt similar but have always had them with a sore throat, or a cold/ fever never just as a cough. I do not smoke (never have). The doctor seemed baffled and i have been sent away with nothing. I am worried aboutthis as it has been going on for 5 days now.
Any ideas what it may be or if i should go and get a second opinion. The evening coughing fits scare me with the rattling chest/slight wheezing although it always calms down in the end........

jflls..... This sounds just like the chest infection I had, all the symptoms sound just the same, the phlegm, scary wheezing when lying down, cough coming on stronger in afternoon/early evening. I have just finished two seperate courses of antibiotics to get rid of it, which, fingers crossed have done the trick.

Not sure what the Doc could give you as you are pregnant but its worth making another appt in late afternoon when the symptoms are worse again.

I have exactly the same thing, mild at first, it went, then came back viciously this week but with no other symptoms and is bad late afternoon. I went to the docs and he could hear some wheezing in my chest (my appt was at 4:30) and put me on antibiotics. I'm 12 weeks pregnant.
