Creaming up boys bits!

DS has just finished a course of antibiotics and seems to be teething. And now to top it all has a very red looking tail and scrotum. I'm assuming it's nappy rash and wondered if anyone has any suggestions for soothing as he's rather upset a t nappy changing time ATM. HAve been using sudocrem so far, but thought i'd once read about only putting vasseline on boys bits. Any ideas.

Chammomile tea. Make up a batch using tea bags allow to cool and store in a bottle then use with a soft cloth to clean and sooth at each change.

I've not heard of any special rules for boys bits.

DS2 had nasty nasty nappy rash while we were away on holiday. We used Kiels nappy cream, which was very expensive, but really really worked. It cleared up the nappy rash while we were staying somewhere we couldn't really let him run about nude. It stopped him crying during the nappy change, even.

This is an excellent page on nappy rash, discussing different types and cures.

Oh, sorry, that's kiehls nappy cream. Diaper cream. I think you can get it in the UK.

keep an eye on it though cos a course of antibiotics can lead to thrush? Probably not but if creams don't work then think about a trip to docs esp if it bothers him.

The link I posted goes into the different types of nappy rash, including thrush. Unfortunately (?!) it doesn't have pictures, but it provides good descriptions.

METANIUM as soon as bottom looks even slightly pink. Its a miracle!! I use it on everything except the testicles (very thin layer to be effective) but when ds had very red testicles I dabbed a spot on there too just very gently. I heard about the vaseline too but cast that aside to the wind and carried on as with DDs just missing out the sack!

I used Metanium cream on my boys, available at most large supermarkets/chemists. I always found it much better than sudocream. I have also heard something about whipped egg whites, but have never tried it myself as youngest ds has some minor allergies.
