MMR - booked for DS tomorrow...V. NERVOUS.

I know all the concerns have been disproved etc. But mud sticks and am still shit scared tbh.
Dh is very relaxed about it where as i will probably start analysing ds's every move and noise and query them!
Anyone able to tell me 1. what are the side effects and how long can they last.
and
2. to stop being hysterical

hi ya
i know how u feel my son matthew was due his 2day but he has croup so we have had to cancel it
im also very nervous about him having it but i know its the best thing for him so taht is wht u have to think about

as far as i know the mmr can cause tempertaure, sickness and a few other things anythng up to 2 weeks after the jab
my daughter had hers and was fine after it so im not aware of the full reactions u can get it

i think teh singel jabs depend on how much on where u live i think here in essex they r about 80 punds each and u have to wait a while inbetween so they dont have them all at once think its after a while they have the next one

im very concenred as matthew has alot of probs and i know if he didnt have the mmr and he got one of the 3 things he would be seriously ill with it, so that is y we have chosen to have it all at once

if u do a search for u area and single jabs i should find somewhere close to u

DS has had ALL vacinations

and he is FINE

Gave him calpol beforehand and he had MMR no problem

DS had MMR in August when he was 3.4. He suffered no side effects other than a red arm a few days after which is completely normal.

I was told he could develop a rash upto 10 days later I think and have a slight temperature.

Jess had hers last wedensday... she has been OK so far, a little clingy and restless, but a lot of that is down to teething i think - she just cut another one yesterday.

I too was s**t scared about her having it, but I knew i had to for her sake, my point of view is that Measles,Mumps or Rubella are much worse than any little side effect from the injection.

thank you all for your support - incidently what age is it best to get mmr done? i thought betweem 13 and 18 months, ds 17 months ( i could have made this up in my head) but he goes to nursery twice a week and think its important for his sake and the other toddlers that he has it soon...

DS had his MMR at 12 months and his booster was at 3.6

i was told the best age for the mmr is between 13 and 18 months, however when i booked matthew i was told he had to over 14 months

Have you any reason to think he'll react?

If not, then he most likely won't. None of mine have reacted to any injection - most children don't.

My lo had the mmr just after 12 months old, no reactions, we were worried, look at the research online etc. talked to relatives abroad where it has been ongoing for a while.

Decided after chat with hv to give the injection, and glad that we gave the mmr to lo, no reactions and problems whatsoever.

Can I just ask whether the HV rang you all to remind you about MMR or whether you made the first call to them.
I have been sort of waiting for their call, but dd is 16.5 months now and nothing.

That's amazing, Rubles, I've had at least 5 reminders so far -- ds is not yet 16 months. I want to wait another 5-6 weeks, (so I expect at least 2 more reminders before then) because immunity is more likely to "take" the older they are. I even wrote a letter to the surgery asking them to stop wasting their time and money hassling me to bring him in for the MMR, but 2 more reminders have come since then.

Bit of a joke, now.

There's a whole thread on MN listing mums whose children had no reaction whatsoever to MMR -- quite a few posts on there.
