I had to take ds to the hospital last week during the night because of croup. The doc said that ds was the 4th child he'd seen that night, so there's a lot of it around just now.

I'd never experienced this before, and I was really scared with the noises he was making, seriously thought was going to call an ambulance as it was something so bad. Still has a cough but otherwise ok.

Hope you all have a better night tonight.

I too heard that you could only get it once, but my own experience is different. My ds1 had it a few times when younger. The best thing we did was buy a humidifier for his room. It was expensive (about £50), but it really helped. He seems to get respiratory problems a lot and we use it whenever he has a cold, cough etc. Make sure it is a warm air humidifier, bot a cold one.

we had our first experience of croup last night - ended up going to hospital by anmbulance, having a nebuliser and steroids. Hoping we won't get any recurrentce tonight. At least we know what it is now though. Going to bed soon as I am exhausted - have been up since 2.30 am !

Sympathy to everyone who encounters it.

dd used to get croup terribly - I don't think you can only get it once - we used to get it every year from now until about spring around 3-4 times.

I would second the steam idea and if you find that doesn't work, sometimes opening the window and having a large breath of cold night air can calm the coughing down.

It seems to be something they grow out of. Dd turned 5 this year and we've not had it once.

Fingers crossed you all get some sleep tonight.

My parents have just bought a humidifier on Amazon for about £25, as when my dd stayed with them last weekend, she had croup on the Friday night. It then turned in to a horrible chesty cough.
Hope your little one is better soon.
