4 month old with diahorrea

DS2 has had it for about a week and a half. He has no high temp, still drinking all his milk and is still very smiley and jolly.

However, after a week I took him to the doctors, who told me to carry on doing what I am doing and it should clear up.

Anyway, still having diahorrea and now has very bad nappy rash (broken skin). Called the doctor about this and he said 'Carry on doing what you are doing'.

As I said DS2 seems happy in himself, but I feel a bit fobbed off by the doctor so I am hoping that others on here may know some over the counter remedies that I could buy or something. Oh, and an effective nappy cream, other than Sudocream, to deal with this nasty rash.

I have a 4 month dd and she too has had what I thought was diahorrea (about 8 dirty nappies a day!) for about 3 weeks now, but I've been told that it isn't actual diarhorrea because it is the same colour etc as usual, just more frequent. She is not dehydrated and like your ds has no other symptoms. Could he be teething? My dd has now got 2 teeth already and it seemed to co-incide with that.
Oh, and bepanthan is a good napy cream (sell it in Sainsbury's), although we've never had anything more than a slightly red bum to try it on!

I find talc is far better than any nappy cream. Even on broken skin is soon clears it up, but try to get unperfumed.

Thanks Raindog for your response. Thought it might have something to do with teething, but can't feel any bumps on his gums. Still, at least he is well in himself.

Kelly1978, I may try talc, as I do have a tub, but have never used it.

I am cleaning him with cotton wool and water at the moment as wipes seem to make it worse.

Oh, and another thing is that if he is just doing small amounts of poo all the time, consider using some disposable nappy liners to save on changing nappies 10 times a day! I use a mixture of washables and disposables, but at the moment I can't keep up with the washing

hi. my 4 month son got out of hospital two weeks ago. your bub hasnt been throwing up at any stage? my boy had what they are calling rotavirus. its a child form of air-borne gastro. nappies were apalling for two weeks green and watery. (foul description but every mother should know about this yucky virus and this was the dead giveaway at the hospital) the vomiting lasts briefly like water. they used a cream even better then bepanthen at the hospiatal called nappymate. it was a really thick paste and it cleared his bum up a dream. i can check with the hospital if you want the proper name. i'm in australia and i dont know if you guys get the exact products but this was amazing.
