growing pains????

My ds is coming up 5. Last night he woke up screaming his head off waking everyone up in the house! Complaining that his knees hurt. He was in real agony. After dosing him up with nurofen and lots of cuddles he went back to sleep. DH was quite dismissive, saying he had growing pains in his legs as a kid, and that it was nothing to worry about. I remember having leg aches and that too, but never waking up in the night in agony, and not in my joints either. Is this something I should be worried about?....
I am going to monitor it over the next couple of nights....but just got a niggling feeling that it ain't...........well...... 'normal'?????

My twins are 6 and lately have been waking in the night with random pains. I was worrying a bit and took them to the doctor, she said it was growing pains and although she is probably right I feel like I am dismissing it
