"Special" things to do in New York?

(71 Posts)
We have been once before, 7 years ago, but it was very last minute (2 days before) so we just kinda went and wandered.

This time we are going for our honeymoon, 3 1/2 days, so would like to make the most of it, and do some really nice/special/amazing things if possible.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.
Time your trip up the Empire State Building so you get to see the view in daylight, but also so you can hang around to see it get dark - amazing really.
Carnegie Deli for breakfast/brunch.
Papaya King for hotdogs.
Don't order a Manhatten - they're bloody vile grin
Going up the Statue of Liberty is overrated. A ride in a yello cab is essential.
Visit Strawberry Fields in Central Park and shed a tear or two for the loss of John Lennon.
It's a truly amazing place.
I stayed at The Algonquin earlier this year, and sitting in their old bar having a cocktail was lovely. There was also a restaurant just a few doors along which was lovely, but the name of which I have forgotten.

I loved walking around SoHo too.
We went a few years ago and highlights were

Rockerfeller building and Empire State (we did one by day the other by night)
Walking over the Brooklyn Bridge
Radio City tour
River cruise - we did the one that goes half way and back again rather than the full loop.
Definitely have dinner at the River Cafe & go for the tasting menu - DH & I agree that it was one of the best meals that we've ever had. We were there at Easter.

I'd second the Oyster Bar and the Staten Island ferry. I also like to visit the Frick Collection and have dim sum in Chinatown. American movie cinemas are also a treat but maybe none of this is very honeymoony. Congratulations by the way.
Hi Geordieminx,

Glad to read that because if you had done you would have been scammed to the tune of £40 for no good reason!!!. Not just to mention any potential damage to you re idenitity theft. Many scammers bought the word "ESTA" for use on their own websites, many of these are operating out of Korea.

Use only the official one that I've posted up for you.

Best wishes, hope you have a great time in NYC

Attila

Emphasis: To bold a word, surround it with asterisks, so *hello* will display hello. For underline use _ , so _hello_ gives hello. For italics use ^, so ^hello^ gives hello. To strike out a word, surround it with two hyphens either side, so --dog-- gives dog

Links and smileys: To insert a smiley face, , type [smile] or :)
For a big grin, , type [grin] or :o
For a wink, , type [wink]
For a shocked face, , type [shock]
For an angry face, , type [angry]
For an embarrassed face, , type [blush]
For a sad face, , type [sad] or :(
For an envious face, , type [envy]
For a sceptical face, , type [hmm]
For a no comment face, , type [biscuit]

Links The simplest way to insert a link is to enter the link itself, surrounded by [[ and ]]. So if you type [[www.mumsnet.com]], the link will display as http://www.mumsnet.com. If you want your link to display text other than the web address itself, leave a space after the address then add the text before the ]]. So "Look at [[www.mumsnet.com this page]]", would display "Look at this page".
