Sorry cant find an answer on gov.uk

Can a 17 yr old travel on their childs passport. (its vaild til 2015.

or do they have to apply for an adult passport as over 16?

I'd presume they could as otherwise I can't see why it was issued given that it is clear how old a child is when they get one. But realise you need something a bit more definite.

if the passport is valid and in date then they can use it. When they get a renewal they will have to do an application for an adult passport

Don't they need to apply for an adult passport at 16?

They can use while it is in date and when it runs out they can apply for their adult passport.
