AitchTwoOhOneTwo Thu 08-Nov-12 10:42:40

am on HOLD, obv. we're currently receiving a very high number of calls...

is the Note just silly? what's the most recent one? am an android fan, have loved the HTC desire for last two years.

AndrewD Thu 08-Nov-12 11:36:14

My friend and wife just got the samsung advance s and think its great.

Snorbs Thu 08-Nov-12 11:38:29

Impossible to say without knowing what you use your phone for. You might as well just flip a coin.

TaggieCampbellBlack Thu 08-Nov-12 11:38:48

Get a note.

NetworkGuy Thu 08-Nov-12 11:55:07

Galaxy Note 2 is most recent AFAIK.

What did you end up doing, and why didn't you research here on MN before ringing them ?!?

PedroPonyLikesCrisps Thu 08-Nov-12 12:20:08

I just got a note 2 last week and it's awesome. But if you have smaller hands then an S3 might be more usable.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo Thu 08-Nov-12 12:21:54

i got the note (presumably note 2? unless they were pulling a fly one...)

AitchTwoOhOneTwo Thu 08-Nov-12 12:22:55

and YES i know, i LOST MY MIND networkguy. hence my total panic on hold, thinking 'wtf haven't i researched this on MN?' grin

AitchTwoOhOneTwo Thu 08-Nov-12 12:25:24

i think what i was asking, tbf, was 'i want a note, are they bloody ridiculous?' but appreciate in my haste i perhaps didn't express tht correctly. they do look ridiculous but i've seen a number of people express shock and awe about theirs...

AitchTwoOhOneTwo Thu 08-Nov-12 12:25:51

i have hands like shovels. grin

APMF Thu 08-Nov-12 15:02:02

I hope it's the Note 2 but its not unknown for them to sell old stock to buyers who aren't fully informed about the latest models.

I suggest you check their website and see if the price for the 2 is what you paid.

Either way, you normally have 14 days to send it back.

NetworkGuy Thu 08-Nov-12 15:43:10

Indeed, you should be able to return it, unopened, if they have the Note 2 on their website, but compare the costs too, before you insist on a Note 2 (in case the cost rockets and you really don't feel happy paying at that level each month for XX months)

Sorry, hadn't noticed it was you Aitch, just assumed someone at random smile

AitchTwoOhOneTwo Thu 08-Nov-12 15:49:41

i'm absolutely as the next girl, NG, believe moi. oh i do HOPE i haven't been stupid enough to ask for the wrong thing. i'm sure the woman hasn't swizzed me, she was SO NICE.

(i've got 'mug' written through me like a stick of rock, haven't i?)

AitchTwoOhOneTwo Thu 08-Nov-12 16:48:03

ARF. as random as the next girl. she says randomly.

NetworkGuy Thu 08-Nov-12 21:30:29

Nah, but it is pretty awkward to know if you have the most up to date info (sometimes feel its my word against theirs when I feel sure an item has been released and they say no... I end up saying I will just have to "get it elsewhere then" which can lead to a mini panic as someone sees a potential sale {perhaps of some rival product} about to disappear through the door!)

NetworkGuy Thu 08-Nov-12 21:31:06

The 'nah' was about stick of rock thing

AitchTwoOhOneTwo Thu 08-Nov-12 23:33:26

i do think she was a good sort, this person, we had a nice chat about her degree in criminology (as you do). and like you say, i can send it back, if i've got the wrong thing i'll know about it quickly.

am wondering if this phone will make my hands look all dainty? you know, like transvestites using giant cocktail glasses?

NetworkGuy Fri 09-Nov-12 11:43:20

LOL

AitchTwoOhOneTwo Fri 09-Nov-12 13:02:03

ooooooh. pretty box. samsung galaxy note II lte.

NetworkGuy Fri 09-Nov-12 14:39:15

Lucky you, Aitch. Do your hands look all dainty?

AitchTwoOhOneTwo Fri 09-Nov-12 14:58:51

hehe. no.

it's charging at the moment. am feverish with anticipation. the screen is so big, though, it looks veh vulnerable compared to my wee htc desire. (which i also loved)

AitchTwoOhOneTwo Sat 10-Nov-12 20:40:04

oh my heavens! This is a modern marvel.I'm writing this with a
PEN!

MikeLitoris Sat 10-Nov-12 20:44:15

I love the note.

I went for the s3 instead as I need to keepmy phone hidden in my pocket in work.

TuftyFinch Sat 10-Nov-12 20:47:32

I'm a bit envy. I've got an old iPhone, with a cracked screen and still nearly 2 years until contract ends, stupid 36 month contract. Have fun with your lovely, new shiny phone. Is it the big one? That looks like a cross between a phone and a tablet? In my sheltered world I'd never seen one (if that's what you've got?) before yesterday. A woman at school had one and I thought it was a tablet, then it rang. I was all agog at the modern world. Have fungrin

MikeLitoris Sat 10-Nov-12 20:51:33

Its a phablet grin

DameFanny Sat 10-Nov-12 20:59:29

I'm posting from my phablet here too. No regrets in 6 months - I love it as much as the first day, which is very very rare for me grin

AitchTwoOhOneTwo Sat 10-Nov-12 21:01:34

it's EXTRAORDINARY!

DameFanny Sat 10-Nov-12 21:10:41

ISN'T IT!

Have you got the hang of Swype yet?

AitchTwoOhOneTwo Sat 10-Nov-12 21:35:40

Now what's that? I feel like I don't yet know the half of what it can do...

HoneyDragon Sat 10-Nov-12 22:16:48

Is there absolutely no way to get the note 2 in your pocket?

I am stuck between s3 and Note 2 (STILL) as I want to break up with Apple. My phone lives in my back pocket you see, but I use it for the internet more than calls.

niceguy2 Sat 10-Nov-12 22:54:44

Honey, i had the same dilemma. In the end I went with the Note because i use it mainly for Internet & watching movies/TV and only occasionally make calls.

The Note 2 is even better than the Note 1 but not enough to make me want to upgrade again. Absolutely amazing phone from an (now ex) apple fan boy.

Aitch. Have you enabled Swype yet? If not, do it. It's transformed the way I type on the phone and it's SOOOOO much faster.

And remember....the problem isnt that your phone is too big...it's that all other phones are too small! I look at every other phone now and they just look like kids toys.

DameFanny Sat 10-Nov-12 22:59:19

Swype is the swooshy thing where you don't lift your finger off the keyboard except between words. It's very clever.

Apps worth having - flipboard looks amazing, you'll probably want a data/3g monitor as surfing is so easy you forget you're not on wifi, angry birds if you want to keep a child quiet... I've also got spotify as we've got Bluetooth thingies on two stereos so we can play music direct from a phone to a set of decent speakers.which is nice.

I wouldn't keep it on a back pocket, not least cos it's thin, but it's fine in a jacket pocket. And a Bluetooth headset for listening to music and the maybe once a week I actually make or take a phone call on it...

HoneyDragon Sat 10-Nov-12 23:03:04

Aaaaaargh!

I don't knoooooooow. Is Jellybean on the S3 now? And can the s3 do everything the note can, bar the s-pen stuff?

I really want the note2 as its NEW and shiny, but s3 might be more sensible.

niceguy2 Sat 10-Nov-12 23:03:54

oooh oooh and get this case Clip on Case

It's dead clever. I have one for my Note 1. It replaces the battery cover which means it only adds the tiniest bit of thickness (the front cover) to the size of the phone.

niceguy2 Sat 10-Nov-12 23:05:23

Yes Honey, you can get JB for the S3 now. And yes...aside from the pen stuff (which I dont use personally) it can do everything the Note can. The S3 is still an awesome phone but I still prefer the Note because of the screen size.

HoneyDragon Sat 10-Nov-12 23:09:00

Right. So S3 and an otterbox is probably the best bet for someone who stands in fields a lot and needs to send photos, but rarely has a bag*?

*circa discovery of smartphone as netbook replacement

AitchTwoOhOneTwo Sun 11-Nov-12 00:55:54

i'd like that case, funnily enough, but it gets TERRIBLE reviews, and doesn't look like it would offer much protection if i dropped it. do persuade me otherwise, cos all the other cases are fuuuuugly.

HoneyDragon Sun 11-Nov-12 07:34:13

Oh sad
I used to have an otter box defender for my iPhone, it was great.

FanjoForTheMammaries Sun 11-Nov-12 07:35:37

Get a note 2 , I looooooooooooooove mine

HoneyDragon Sun 11-Nov-12 07:36:04

Or do you mean the flippy note one? Because the flippy note one was snother reason I wanted to get the note2 grin

FanjoForTheMammaries Sun 11-Nov-12 07:36:39

Oops I saw title and posted in haste without seeing date. Glad you went fr it

FanjoForTheMammaries Sun 11-Nov-12 07:37:44

Flip case is great, makes phone seem less unwieldy too

AitchTwoOhOneTwo Sun 11-Nov-12 09:05:03

sorry, yes, it's the flip one, honestly the reviews are AWFUL. (but it's so pretty).

FanjoForTheMammaries Sun 11-Nov-12 11:06:56

Am giving a good review, although wouldn't like to drop phone with it on.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo Sun 11-Nov-12 12:41:19

lol, that's the sort of thing i'm finding off-putting. (but they're so pwetty!)

FanjoForTheMammaries Sun 11-Nov-12 13:57:40

It is and I find it less embarrassing to whip a huge tablet out in public with the cover on for some reason

Haberdashery Sun 11-Nov-12 14:51:38

I LOVE my Note. It is an incredible phone. Don't miss my iPhone one bit. You can absolutely get a Note in a coat pocket or back jeans pocket. At least, I can (and I don't have a particularly large arse).

AitchTwoOhOneTwo Sun 11-Nov-12 14:55:21

weirdly, it's getting smaller by the minute... och i am just going to order the stoopid case that i actually LIKE.

HoneyDragon Sun 11-Nov-12 14:59:50

And it doesn't fall out your pocket?

I'm still stuck between S3 and Iphone5 at the moment <<spoilt brat>>

Haberdashery Sun 11-Nov-12 15:07:25

No, it doesn't fall out of my pocket. Any bigger and it wouldn't fit. It's at the very edge of fitting comfortably!

PedroPonyLikesCrisps Sun 11-Nov-12 16:17:06

I decided against the flip cover for my Note 2 as I couldn't see a picture of it anywhere with the cover folded behind the phone, so figured that using it with my left hand would be impossible with that cover and you can't just take it off. I opted instead for a Samsung slip case which is great. It's still slimmer in pocket than my Desire HD and I get to use the phone sans cover which means I get to touch it directly and it feels wonderful in the hand!

HoneyDragon Sun 11-Nov-12 16:30:10

How far above the top of a rear pocket does it go <<tape measure ready>> could it be easily stolen?

Samsung need to address these questions to save me hassling you lot grin

Haberdashery Sun 11-Nov-12 16:41:19

Haha! Um, not sure. About an inch and a half?

Haberdashery Sun 11-Nov-12 16:42:32

4cm. I measured. Am wearing Uniqlo skinny straight cords, if this helps you assess pocket dimensions.

HoneyDragon Sun 11-Nov-12 16:53:56

It does actually grin

Although its finalised my decision back to Samsung vs Apple, but I really think I should break up with Apple

cocolepew Sun 11-Nov-12 16:59:30

Blimey HD have you still not decided?

I have the first note and have a clip on cover for it. I love both of them.

I've had it for ages and don't know why swipe is blush

cocolepew Sun 11-Nov-12 17:01:54

See, I can't even spell it right sad

HoneyDragon Sun 11-Nov-12 17:05:58

My intimate regions still don't appear to be large enough for storing the note wink

and I am too scared to decide between the iphone5 (familiar yet evil) and the s3 (unchartered waters)

daisydoodoo Sun 11-Nov-12 17:13:00

I've got an iPhone 5 and the s3 here. The iPhone is a work phone. I reach for the s3 every time. It's definitely broken my live affair with apple.
The s3is much more user friendly. Only phone I'd swap it for would be the note 2.

daisydoodoo Sun 11-Nov-12 17:13:45

Love not live. That's my fat finger fault not the s3 smile

niceguy2 Sun 11-Nov-12 17:16:59

Honeydragon, JFDI! The S3 is simply miles better than the iphone IMO.

@Pedro. The flipcover will fold back and you can easily hold it in one hand. As for using the phone in one hand......that depends. I can reach most of the screen with my hands and I'm a bloke. Not sure if you will be able to if your hands are smaller than mine. There is one handed mode which puts the keyboard on the left hand side so you can type with one hand but it looks weird and makes the buttons really small for when you do type with both. I don't use it. Swype rocks anyway. If I can't type with both hands then either I shouldn't be using the phone anyway (eg. driving) or I can always use the speech recognition which is very accurate.

HoneyDragon Sun 11-Nov-12 17:21:28

Ok ok I'll do it it tomorrow.

Blue or white?

TickleMyTitsTillFriday Sun 11-Nov-12 17:27:10

HoneyDragon, my s3 is titanium... you want that one!

HoneyDragon Sun 11-Nov-12 17:36:16

Only looks like I get blue or white with O2 sad

TickleMyTitsTillFriday Sun 11-Nov-12 17:39:33

Blue then. Definitely blue...

What is this swype? I want it!

TickleMyTitsTillFriday Sun 11-Nov-12 17:44:45

Oh my god just found it, I bloody love it!

AitchTwoOhOneTwo Sun 11-Nov-12 17:47:39

No swype with the note, but Samsung has its own version. The one I am using now, actually. .. Only thing is it is quite shit for punctuation. Oh, and swearing.

DameFanny Sun 11-Nov-12 17:56:01

Piss, Fuck, Bullocks, shit, wankbadger. See? Just add to the dictionary wink

Honey I'm the same, I thought I was going to go with an iPhone (after having a HTC desire S). But I keep looking at the Note and thinking 'my toddler could watch button moon so much easier on that screen'.

Impending toddler and newborn keeps swaying me to the big screened button moon phone. grin

BertieBotts Sun 11-Nov-12 18:44:06

I got to play with test a Note II at work the other day - I LOVE the pen thing! It's so beautiful!

I could never own one (I have tiny hands and a propensity to drop things) but they are oh so pretty, and have some pretty nice features, too!

Haberdashery Sun 11-Nov-12 19:44:42

LOL at 'bullocks'.

DameFanny Sun 11-Nov-12 19:49:33

Oh arse! And bollocks too!

PedroPonyLikesCrisps Sun 11-Nov-12 19:51:13

I genuinely can't believe how good the handwriting recognition is on the Note 2 with the S pen. It can read my rubbish scrawly script almost effortlessly.

Thanks for the info on the case niceguy I may have to consider getting one now....or perhaps when they get a bit cheaper!

NetworkGuy Mon 12-Nov-12 13:34:14

marking my place...

Having had a 7" tablet for 10+ months but knowing it's not ideal when out (as I would have to use tethering which isn't officially allowed on my contract, but works well, I can see how much I might like the Note 2

NetworkGuy Mon 12-Nov-12 13:38:06

I don't use Swype - I tried SlideIT and bought that - I don't slide my fingers around and turn off predictive word guesses whenever possible smile

AitchTwoOhOneTwo Mon 12-Nov-12 13:58:03

can anyone successfully sync their calendars between phone and, say, livemail?
i can get it (via hotmail) to do laptop > phone but not the other way around, which is a bit of an arse.
i was hoping Kies would do all this, but it can't find anything to hook up to when i try it.

niceguy2 Mon 12-Nov-12 14:07:47

Not tried it with livemail but it works flawlessly with Google Calendar. In fact, our whole family runs on it. Appointments go onto our shared family calendar and everyone knows where we are supposed to be and what we're doing. DD has iphone, OH has Android too and DS has ipod touch. All work fine.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo Mon 12-Nov-12 14:11:55

do you know what... i don't think it does. a message flashed up saying that it didn't blooming well work wiht google calendar. why that would be i do not know...

TigerFeet Mon 12-Nov-12 14:13:47

Hmmm

I've been ogling the S3 (have HTC wildfire s atm, is small and not v powerful but I still interweb on it far more than on my laptop which suddenly seems enormous and unwieldy).

Do I want a Note 2 instead?

Sorry Aitch can't help with your last post as I have absolutely no bloody idea what you're on about grin

AitchTwoOhOneTwo Mon 12-Nov-12 14:47:53

you want a note.

TigerFeet Mon 12-Nov-12 15:11:17

Hmm, do I? Why? Is it shinier? Will it make my friends go "oooh" more loudly?

Contract not up for a couple of months so plenty of time wibble about it. Glad I asked before actually ringing up grin

BertieBotts Mon 12-Nov-12 20:27:09

The Note II and the S3 are identical except that the Note II is bigger.

BertieBotts Mon 12-Nov-12 20:27:38

Either will blow you away in comparison to a Wildfire S grin

BertieBotts Mon 12-Nov-12 20:28:46

The original Note or the S2 would wipe the floor with the Wildfire S!

PedroPonyLikesCrisps Tue 13-Nov-12 12:46:12

"The Note II and the S3 are identical except that the Note II is bigger."

Except the Note 2 also has the S Pen and the associated wonderfulness which goes with it!

AitchTwoOhOneTwo Tue 13-Nov-12 12:49:29

the kids were in BITS last night using the s-pen to draw all over photos of themselves. i'm not a fan of games, particularly, they seem to cause my two to fight, but this was hilarious. i really can't believe this bit of kit.

battery life is crazy awesome on the note as well, good idea to check if the galaxy is similar.

FanjoForTheMammaries Tue 13-Nov-12 13:12:17

first thing I drew was a big willy grin

FanjoForTheMammaries Tue 13-Nov-12 13:12:27

<mature>

AitchTwoOhOneTwo Tue 13-Nov-12 13:14:11

yup, same here. a colossal spurter. <lowers tone> i think it's the law.

TigerFeet Wed 14-Nov-12 12:19:06

Looks like I'm getting a Note then when the time comes not at all because I want to draw a massive spurting knob on my phone, oh no

AitchTwoOhOneTwo Wed 14-Nov-12 13:47:13

you know it makes sense.
