Inserting a movie into a powerpoint presentation

Help! I have to give a presentation to teachers about teaching languages which includes teaching the teachers how to insert a movie clip into a powerpoint presentation.

Everytime I try it, I get a black box on the slide, not a still from the movie as it says in the online help. If I click on the black box the movie does start, because I can hear it, but I can't see it! I just see the black box.

Do you have the right media player on your computer to play it.

If you try and play the movie totally indepenantly of powerpoint does it play properly?

Yes it does. I was having a problem with that but asked a question here and was recommended vlc media plarer which works well and also has lovely little icons like stripy traffic cones.

Maybe that is related....I have guessed I would assume that it would be bog standard windows media player that is required for powerpoint to run it.

Perhaps try googling to see if vlc media can run as a powerpoint plug-in?

Yep, that's obviously the problem. Just googled it and foud other people have the same problem but no-one seems to be able to suggest a solution. Does that mean that I need to try and get RealPlayer to play my movies again? And if so, does anyone know how i'd do that?
