new version of firefox - does anyone else find it weird?

I downloaded the latest version of firefox yesterday. They seem to have done something very odd with the tabs - when I open a new tab and try to open a web page in it, the web page opens in the previous tab, which sort of defeats the object rather. The only way I've found to open new pages in new tabs so far is to open an extra new tab. Or have I missed something more obvious. And yes, I have been making sure that the new tab is the one showing the red box at the top which on the old version meant that was the tab you were in.
