Everyone on my contacts list has received an email that looks like it's from me, and when they open it it is from a software company trying to sell stuff. I've changed my password, but does anyone know what should I do now?

I'd let everybody know it wasn't you then get a new name / address.

It will take time to tell everyone it's no longer yours so in the meantime make the password on this account longer and more complex.

Do that on the new one too. Any word from a dictionary is risky. Especially as most people when asked choose a word from a list of only a few thousand common ones.

The safest is to mix upper lower case and special charactors like this

But that is awful to type in. A compromise is a compound word like this.

Easier to remember even if you make it longer still. The longer the better.

Oh and check other details on that account. If it has a secret word to use to get a lost password than change that too right now to something longer.
