Help! My phone hisses.

I bought new cordless phones about 6 weeks ago and at first they worked perfectly.

A few days ago I changed our ISP and went on to wireless connection.

The phone base unit and the wireless router are both plugged in to the hall phone socket as it is the only place that has an electrical socket and phone socket side by side.

Now the phone hisses really badly when making a call. Bizarrely, it doesn't seem to be related to the computer as I have disconnected the computer and router and it still hisses.

Any ideas how to fix?

TIA

Have you tried switching off the router to make sure it's not interfering? How about a microfilter in the phone lead?

I think you might need a broadband filter to plug the phone into.

This happened to us when we first had our broadband connected.

Sorry. Have not been back on to answer until now.

I disconnected everything and tried adding one piece of equipment at a time. I have filters on all the phones. The computer and the phone base unit share a phone socket and a double electrical socket.

In the house I have:

1 very old phone which only needs a phone socket, not an electrical socket. I keep this for powercuts. It is in the living-room

1 phone which has a base unit and a handset plugged in upstairs

1 phone which has a base unit and 4 handsets. This is the new one which shares the sockets in the hall with the computer.

I have tried all sorts of combinations and the phone still hisses even when the computer is switched off.

Anyone help?
TIA

I think it might be possessed.

so wait a minute

when you had disconnected EVERYTHING, then you plugged in one phone at a time, yes?

when ONE phone was plugged in, was there a hiss?

did you swap this for another one phone and was there still a hiss?

If so, you need to report a fault to BT

Yep MP, still hisses. That's why I didn't think it was due to computer/broadband or wireless.

But can there be a hissing fault on the line? The phones work OK otherwise, they just hiss, all of them, even the ancient one making it really difficult to hold a long conversation.
