help me view a photo someone has sent to my daughters new phone!

Me and DH have very basic non photo phones! Bought dd a nice pink 'slide' samsung phone for birthday. A friend has had a baby and so i've given her dd's tel no and they've texted photo to her phone. Message is there and says its 10kb (is that big?) but it wont 'open'. Initially it said 'unknown subscirber' whihc made me think it wasnt letting her look at photo as it was from someone not in her phonebook so we have added the friend as a contact, so now the message shows who it's from but when you click on it and press 'retrieve' it still says 'unknown subscriber'. Instructions not helping, anyone else help??
