Help please - iphone will not sync with itunes

Got iphone 3g on Thursday and it wouldn't sync with itunes. Tried everything, ringing O2, Apple etc, and the consensus was it was faulty.
Exchanged it today, and the exact same problem -itunes is not recognising the iphone. Have changed usb ports/leads. ipod syncs fine though.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as it is starting to drive me bonkers - I have a lovely phone and can't use it!

mine did that and turned out it was me! I hadn't registered the phone correctly ... give that a try!
