UPS virus email?

MarmadukeScarlet · 14/07/2008 23:28

Got a UPS tracking email saying parcel undeliverable due to incorrect postal address.

As waiting for my (Boden) parcel I clicked to download a form as instructed by email, luckily my norton blocked it and said it found a virus.

I checked and Boden deliver with parcelnet anyway.

A closer look at the email sent address made me realise it was not from ups at all and actually the email was to someone else with first name same as mine.

Oh, I got one of those yesterday, and as I'm waiting for a parcel to clear customs at Heathrow I nearly opened it,(until I remembered my parcel was sent with TNT )

I was still dithering about what to do, when another identical email arrived, so I suspected spam.

Yep, same here. I'm waiting on a parcel from the US. Fortunately AVG Free v8 canned the attachment.

I got another one today, and because I'm a) expecting a parcel I missed yesterday and b) tracking a large trade order I've sent out, I was > this close to opening the damned thing.
What with this, dead nigerian dictators and dodgy ebay emails, I feel I need a better spam filter...

The spam filter I use has been ditching these e-mails for days. There are certainly many of these e-mails doing the rounds. None of the e-mails have come from a UPS domain name (or been faked to appear to come from one), so a good indicator that an e-mail is fake, is that it does not come from UPS.

Latest stats (figures are Jan 2007-Today):
86% of all e-mail I receive is SPAM.
Total Emails Received: 76,586
Total Emails Blocked: 65,513

The spam filter I use costs £2.50 per month (or cheaper if paid annually). Worth it to me, given the amount of spam it is detecting.

I got this e-mail 2 days ago (having ordered something from Play.com)
My NOD 32 detected no virus but I keep getting MSN window popping up saying the laptop is infected ? Any advice welcome ?
