Speedtests - How fast is your broadband

Many flashy speed test sites give misleading information. If you think your broadband is slow then the best test is to download a large file from a fast site and watch the numbers change. You don't even have to let it finish once you see the speed.

Bookmark these for when you need them:

Thinkbroadband has sample files to download and also explains the numbers.

Speedtest.net is another good site to test your actual connection speed.
We live pretty much in the middle of nowhere and pay for a 8mbit line and even get it as well.

Admittedly we do live abroad. Should be interesting to see if it what bthe speed is when we upgrade to a 15mbit line next month...

Mind boggles...

My deal is for 24mbit in theory, but I don't get that as I'm too far from the exchange - not many people do. Still I get about 11mbit which is pretty wonderful. Downloading at just over 1 megabyte per second is cool.
