i just ran a free keylogger scan, I do have (as I suspected when I ran it) a keylogger.

Now, this is either viral or the ex has installed it. I need to get rid of it. I think the ex has installed it to be honest. He blew up 2 weeks ago about me "Meeting men and shagging then" (wtf?) and I passworded my computer, but too late it seems.

I need to get my photos and windows xp off this computer and onto a disc, then wipe this computer and put what I want back on.

What do I need to do? Can this be done?

how up to date is your antivirus stuff?

I had to close the antivirus and now I can't open it... oh God i wish I was better at this, I feel really under seige at the minute, like I can't even sit on the computer without being spied on by him, because I'm not competant enough to stop him!

You need lapin

This is outrageous and very possibly illegal behaviour so if you have a solicitor, I would suggest you tell her/him about it

does your antivirus run automatically when your computer starts up?
Sorry you have this stress

Report
colditz · 10/05/2008 15:28

Actually it might start up automatically.

Is it still illegal if I let him use the computer wqhile he's here though?

He uses it when I am out to play his online games.

And, it seems now, to spy on me

try not to panic.

have a look

here

there are programmes you can install that will just get rid of them, like spybot etc.

Have you clicked any unknown links in emails/on websites? It's possible to have a keylogger installed from a seemingly harmless link which will then run a script on your computer.

It can be got rid of without having to uninstall everything, but...

If you have online banking I would suggest you change your passwords (once you have got rid of the offending keylogger), also change your email/msn/internet/facebook/windows/any other passwords you have on the computer.

If you have written down any details such as credit/debit card numbers/pin numbers/security codes for your bank cards then you need to speak to your bank and ask them to issue you with new cards as your security might have been compromised.

And then have a chat with xp and demand some answers, but be prepared for the fact this might have come in from somewhere else.

(Tamara Mellon?)

I used a free Key Logger detector that pointed me to cache files that have been there since the 5th of this month, but I don't know for sure I have a keylogger or what it is, but what else could be caching my internet use?

Should I download a free spyware thing off the internet? I'm sure I had AGV anti spy buy it's disabled (although I may have bumblingly done that myself)

Ok, so this could have come from somewhere else then.

how are your internet files saved. i.e. does internet explorer save your internet history? in which case there will be cashed files on your computer for the period that history is saved.

I would download and install an anti-spyware programme such as spyBot or ad-aware and run that to see if it detects anything. Anything it detects it will remove.

do bear in mind that most computers have some form of spyware on them but most doesn't have the capacity to rip off your identity.

I have downloaded spywareterminator.

I hope this resolves it, otherwise I am going to kiss you bye bye, get my photos off the computer and bin the farking thing

I can't see anybody wanting my identity to be honest, I have no credit rating or passport!

these programmes aren't selective. Often they're just a script attached to a link in an email or on a webpage. If 1000 people click on the link they might get one credit card number out of it.

It is surprisingly easy to have your card details stolen over the net, which is why it's adviseable to only ever pay online by credit and not debit card as your credit card is covered and you don't lose actual money if your card is cloaned.
