Can I be busting my broadband data limit just from reading mn? Because that's about all I do.

Hardly likely as webpages are trivial sizes. What is your limit?

It's a "fair use" thing. They're saying there's a huge amount of data being transfered every month. I'm puzzled tbh.

Is it wifi you are using and if it is is it security enabled

It's wireless and as secure as it gets I believe - only a handful of identified pieces of hardware are allowed to connect.

Have you ever watched TV downloaded from the BBC or C4? If you actually installed iplayer or C4s equivalent it continues to upload the file to others in the background after you have finished with it.

Do you have a firewall that shows what programs are currently connected to the net?

I would check no-one is using your wifi you should be able to tell who is connected to it at any time and their activity

Unlimited, but subject to fair use.

DP downloads telly sometimes - maybe that's it. But he's been away for most of the last month which is why I'm so puzzled.

Well if iplayer was ever installed (different from just viewing on the site using flash) then it will constantly upload whenever the PC is running even if you don't run the viewer and it will use huge amounts of bandwidth.

Look for Kontiki in control panel add-remove programs to see if you have it there. Kontiki is the actual P2P program that Iplayer and 4oD install.

Also press Ctrl-Alt-Delete and look in the Task manager for kservice.exe.

Ok if it's not on yours and DP is away that probably isn't the cause of your bandwidth problems.

Just for anyone who wants to know. When people use Iplayer or 4OD it's actually filesharing. You download a TV show to watch and the next person who wants it downloads it from your computer. So it is working all the time the computer is on.

Ok, so you need to track down what program is using all the bandwidth. Do you have a firewall? If you do then post what it's called because it may show which running programs are connected to the net.

If you don't then I'd recommend getting one.
The one i am most familier with is sygate which is free
