This is Lulumama's Husband!

Two options... turn off mac, remove battery, wait a couple of seconds and try again.

Alternately, you battery has led a happy life, but has moved on to battery heaven. (buy a new battery!)

Good luck.

ps, if it's in it's 12 month warranty, you can get it replaced FOC from the apple store.

There is a problem with some of the macbook batteries, I have had DD's replaced FOC, they send it out next day as well.

Go to support on the apple site, details there, if you can't find it, leave a note and I will link it later for you as child going home now

I had to get a new battery for mine too, but dh paid for it, when it sounds like he shouldn't have!

My geeky maccy dp says: unplug everything, take battery out, hold the power button down for about ten seconds, put battery back in, plug the power supply back in. That resets the PMU (Power Management Unit)

That should be it, if it isn't then the battery is probably dead.

Lulumana's husband - thanks for replying so quickly!

Thanks to everyone else too.

it was the power supply, dead as a dodo - could not reply as the two minutes were up very quickly indeed.
Been to Apple store and was replaced FOC as only two months old.

I was very worried that DH would kick my ass for letting DD play with laptop, but turned out not to be my fault after all! phew!

xx

ooh interested in that advice as my MacBook has been having problems sometimes too and I have twice now had to take the battery out as it just didn't switch on. Didn't know there were some dodgy batteries, might take mine back to the Apple Store for a check over as should still be under warranty.

Here is the info and link macbook battery problems

ibook and powerbook battery

The support site is very good, as there are all sorts of recalls or exchange programs for macs older than a year.

I had a logic board replaced on DS's ibook when it was 2 years old, free of charge as there was a known problem.

My name is alibubbles and I am a mac freak - we have 6 in our house, plus everything else Apple you can think of!

hi alibubbles that's a great link. What runtime should I expect from my Macbook battery? I've only charged it about 30 times and I reckon it lasts about 4 hours usually.

Report
alibubbles · 04/04/2008 18:25

4 hours doesn't seem too bad to me, DD's macbook is less than a year old and that is all I get from it ( took it to the Seychelles as my 17' powerbook is too heavy!(

DH says he may have found a buyer for my powerbook, as he knows that I am lusting after the mac air!

McDreamy · 04/04/2008 18:29

4 hours is pretty good, we can normally comfortably get a couple of films out of it on a journey home so my mac sounds about the same.

What do you want to know katy? We bought our macbookpro a week before apple released the macbook air. We were very indeed!

katyt1 · 04/04/2008 19:14

thanks llareggub - didn't even know about the MB Air, dh just rang me up and told me i have some good news, bought you this new laptop - i had to look it up on the net

anyway, i'm sure there are loads of q's but to start with:

  • how do i get the trackpad thingie to allow me to doubleclick?

- how do i cut, copy & paste?
  • and is there a right click button equivalent? i only have one button.

i'm so not a techie

You need to buy the missing manual for a mac - briliant, teaches you all the tricks. try here too

apple x - cut

apple c - copy

apple v- paste

The apple key is the one to the right of the space bar.

You don't need to double click on a mac.

Don't know about right click as I have only ever used a mac!

I am very

thanks so much you 2,

have managed to find the apple key - has a weird symbol and cmd written on it - in fact i have 2, one either side of the space bar
will have to spend some time with that website.

ok, can the trackpad let me 'click' by tapping on it? my last laptop i could...or i may just need to change my behaviour rather than try to make an apple like a non-apple laptop.

and i haven't even started trying to set up the remote disk thing, or music or pictures....so much to do, so little toddler-free time

still loving it

Have you got the photobooth application? Much fun can be had with that.

DH says that you can make the track pad double click by going into preferences..or so he says. I haven't checked.

Report
katyt1 · 05/04/2008 15:30

ooh have just gone into preferences and managed to change the trackpad to what i want, thanks l'gub's dh

don't know about photobooth yet tho, babysteps....

Report
llareggub · 05/04/2008 16:41

OK, go to the bottom if the screen to the dock. You should get a load of icons waving around. There is one called photobooth. Click on it and have much fun taking photos of yourself and creating all sorts of different effects. It amuses me, anyway! Macs are great.
