Geeky stuff

Norton/Tiscali broadband - something is making surfing painfully slow. Any ideas?

Since I updated the Norton Security on my PC, it's taking ages to upload webpages. Anyone know if I can twiddle the settings to speed things up a bit?

Or is Tiscali just cr*p at the moment?

All suggestions welcome, otherwise my hair will be grey by the time i reach the end of active convos.

I'm no techie but i have heard that tiscali have problems during peak surfing times - especially now they have taken over Pipex broadband too.

I've also heard that Norton is notorious for slowing dwon your computer. I use AVG free and find it much better than McAfee that i used to use (and pay for)

you can see if the issue is ISP reated by using one of these sites.. they will show you the actual speed are you getting thru your connection

www.speedtest.net/
www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk/

It is also worth noting that if the issue suddenly starts and thse reading are very low then a failing line filter can also cause a loss of performance

Thanks all

I will 'borrow' a geeky BIL/nephew to investigate. Actually it's fine now - quiet Monday am rather than busy weekend, so guessing it's an ISP thing?
No wireless - just the one PC here.
