Installed a new wireless router for my dad and now his outlook express isn't working (the words back and rod spring to mind.....)

ARGH

WHY do I volunteer to do these things? I HATE outlook express.

So, the new router is fine, the wireless is fine, he can access the internet fine via wireless or attached to the router.

I have looked at the account details in outlook express and it still shows the old ADSL router (non-wireless) as the connection. The new one doesn't show in there. When I try and connect it says that the com port is already in use (or something like that)

Of course I am not there any more

Any kind techie that can help me out???

Many thanks

the settings for Outlook are tied straight to internet explorer...

On your IE icon, RH click and select properties... then goto the 'connections' tab... make sure that 'never dial a connection' is selected and then hit apply and ok..

This should force the Outlook app to use the open network connection and not try to dial using the modem....

are you sure this is deffinetly Outlook and not some app from someone like AOL??

Who is the ISP??.... I know that some write some rubbish software that manages the Outlook connection.. sometimes these need the wizard to be re-run to change the connection type

The isp is freedom2surf
I don't think it's their issue though as the internet connection is fine

Do you think it's relevant that when I installed teh wireless router thingy and took the old one off that the new one doesn't appear in the list of available devices? It seems to still be looking for the old one...

Thanks for your help
