First of all let me explain I am not technologically minded at all but I do send a lot of emails using the standard apple mail app on my iPad.

I have just written and sent ( or so I thought) a long important email and then sent it. ( I heard the whooshing sound it makes when it goes!). I have just gone to read it to check I had put everything in and cannot find it anywhere. I have checked trash in case I had inadvertently deleted it but cannot find it anywhere. I know I clicked on send.
What has happened?

Is it in the sent folder?

It's weird. I checked sent, trash and even individually named folders in case I had somehow managed to put it in a folder, which is not likely as I would have had to click on a few specific things to do that.
So annoying. I had even read it out to my dh to check it sounded ok before I clicked on send.
Will have to ring intended recipient in the morning to see if they have received it.

My dh says he can never understand how I manage to do the things I do in error and reckons I should work for apple setting up problems for them to solve!

So it's a gmail account but you're accessing it via the standard Mail app on your iPad? I would have a look at your Gmail account through a standard browser on a desktop machine, or at least through the Gmail app on your iPad.

Check the label/folder 'All Mail' in case it's somehow not in your Sent items. Also check Drafts.

Log onto gmail itself and use the search function.

Have you looked in both sent folders? sometimes there's another one nested under inbox or gmail or somewhere, I think if you use a local mail client like outlook.

It's likely gone via a different account also linked to your iPad or the gmail app is being shite due to the gmail app being shite. Log in via browser and try that way.

Thanks all.
Will check everything.. my dh is convinced I pressed cancel instead of send. Even I know the difference between the two!

Try searching for it by putting in a keyword that was in the email - an uncommon one.

If you had pressed cancel you would still have it in Drafts. It sounds like it took a while to write so it would have been saving as you went along.

I'm going to third the suggestion that it chose a different email account to send from (Mail likes to do this). Use the search function (select 'inbox' for all mail, nit just your gmail account, pull the screen down and you should get a search window. Type in the subject you used, or the email address if the recipient.), or check the draft and sent folders of the other email accounts you have linked to Mail.
