Lost some screen resolution on Dell laptop

All advice most welcome. I've got a 6 year old Dell laptop, the resolution (if that's the right word) has changed. For instance, on Outlook, I can no longer see the little check boxes to the left of my messages, and some letters in some words are not complete, but still readable.

I've tried changing the resolution, but it's still at the optimum, according to Mr Google, and I can't find anything else helpful online. I don't recall doing anything different to the keyboard, but I did give it rather a vigorous clean a couple of days ago and am wondering if I've accidentally done this myself.

Most grateful for any advice.

You need to go a little deeper into the details. Does it happen in outlook only? Are you using the Outlook app, or you are talking about the website Outlook? If using the Outlook app (part of Microsoft office package) have you recently updated it? If you did, it could be because of your probably outdated video card. My computer is also 6 years old, and I don't have any problems with the outlook website. But not so sure on the office package. Depends on lots of things. Please, give some more details. Thanks in advance,

~Xandra

Thanks Xandra for your helpful post. In fact, I took the laptop to a local recommended repair place. Charming young man looked at it, pressed a few keys, looked at the screen he'd got up, pressed a few more, and hey presto, it was back to normal.

He then said that there was no charge, as it hadn't taken him any time and was easily rectified. He didn't say what the problem was, and I was rather taken aback, while thanking him profusely, and forgot to ask.
