Kindle Fire and Podcasts

I am a complete technophobe. I own an iPAD but just use it for mumsnettting and buying clothes web browsing and taking photos and videos and it's so full that I can't even use most of the apps on it as they are out-of-date and I don' t have enough memory to update them.

I have to go into hospital soon for a big operation and would like to download podcasts, audiobooks and films to keep me company while I'm in there.

Would a Kindle Fire be a good choice for this? If so, is it easy to download BBC podcasts (for example) and films and box sets for offline use? I've downloaded Stitcher on my Android phone but never managed to listen to anything offline so deleted it.

Just a thought, can't you delete all those you don't use to free up memory?

It's all the videos of small children doing cute and funny things taking up the space and a few emergency Peppa Pig videos. I know I should put them on the cloud but I really don't know what that even means.
