Laptop reccommendations please

This thing is creaking, it's 5 years old so the time has come to get a new laptop. Do you have any recommendations for new laptops? I use a Macbook Pro at work which I love but even the MacBook Air is very expensive. Are there any alternatives you would recommend?
Need it for - basic word processing, storing/viewing photos, basic video editing, surfing the net. No gaming.

Watching with interest as dd wants a new laptop.

Our family one is Samsung which has been great but I think theyve stopped making them now.

The important things to look for are the processor, I've been told celeron is the one to avoid.
