Vodaphone contract ... Any help....

When I upgraded dd1's phone to a 5c iphone I was told by vodaphone there could be a limit to how much internet useage there was. However there is no service at vodaphone for this apparantly and after going over contract price every month I now just have to trust that she will be more careful. Is this all I can do...?

Most phones have some usage monitor - I'd hope that there's something for the iPhone to use, too. The contract will state some allowance - I'd set any warning at about 80% so DD1 knows she should be v careful.

Three and Tesco allow the contract fee to be capped (I cannot ring any premium rate numbers, nor international, nor send MMS, as I want to limit the types of expense which could be added... both my contracts have unlimited data and 5000 texts, etc, so generous to not be likely to exceed anyway).

The Android App I have will disable the phone's Data connection if it was to hit a limit. I put my limit at 10000000 MB (since it is unlimited!) but that would be ideal. Some phones have usage monitoring built in - my Sony Tipo (50 quid) shows what has been used and allows me to set an alarm at some level below.

Vodaphone tell me they are not able to set a cap or limit or inform me when the Internet allowance is almost up...!

Then you'll have to find an App for the phone, but switch to Tesco or Three (if you have sufficient service coverage) next time, and explain why you are doing so (so Vodafone and others can learn that capping bills is something consumers want).

I don't have an iPhone so cannot recommend a suitable App, sorry.

It really should be built in on the phones these days, given most networks are so stingy about how much data they allow for customers.

Aargh lost my post.

I am on vodafone and I have a contract for my dd too. They text me or her every time we near our limit.

The problem isn't your network provider it's that your daughter isn't responsible enough for a contract phone. Take it away.

If he's using about the same amount of data each month and can't find a way of controlling it then you'd be better to go to a tariff with enough inclusive content to cover it, it'd work out cheaper in the end.

EE tariffs are all capped with a text at 80%, you can then limit usage or buy a bundle to tide him over.

Sorry, just realised you gave a dd, not a ds.
