WD Passport portable hard drive - daft question

A hoping someone can help a techno dunce...

I bought one of these about three years ago. I vaguely remember hooking it up to my old laptop but not sure if I ever set it up properly, let alone actually used it to back up files etc from that laptop. It then ended up being stored away with a load of random computer type stuff for a couple of years or more.

I have today dug it out of a box and attached it to my current laptop but can't seem to see any files on it so I am assuming I never did set it up when I got it, and now want to use it to back up the files on my current laptop.

My question is, is there a dummy's guide on how to use it as I can't find one anywhere in my boxes / files for that stuff at home - do I just treat it like an extra large USB memory stick?

Yes, you treat it like a large memory stick. So basically you use it like a hard drive but remember to eject it before unplugging it.

Thank you for responding - I braved it and it has worked, just like a normal memory stick. Not sure why I thought I had to do anything else, but it was making it me quite scared of using it in case it stole everything from my laptop!
