I can upgrade from my much loved but crappy and regularly crashing crackberry this autumn (can you tell I'm a bit excited about the possibility of an iphone Blush. I also need a new sat nav, my TomTom is ancient.

What are sat nav apps like for iphones? Would I just need one of those stick on window mounts for it?

I have a window mount for my iPhone and it works fine, but I due loaded googlemaps and it's much better than the standard iPhone map. It's free aswell.

I've got a free sat nav app on my phone and have always found it fine. It does annoying things like says 'turn right' when it's just a corner in the road but that doesn't bother me. I love my iPhone Grin

My TomTom does the weird 'turn right/left' thing too.

In built Ford one does that on the way to school. Single track road and the priorities aren't altogether clear.

We've got the TomTom app on Iphone and it is really good. Cost about £40 but we share an Itunes account and have it on both our phones so it doesn't seem as bad. Far better than our old standalone TomTom and the built in one in DH's Nissan that he just got rid of, those are the only others I've tried.

I use copilot on my Android with a cradle in the car with a built in charging pad. It works really well, way better than my ageing tom tom

Iphone map has helped me out of trouble a number of times but can lose signal at times which can be frustrating. Tom-Tom all the way for me!

Google maps also does car GPS if you want to sell your soul to google rather than apple...

loving that's helpful. I might keep my tomtom on standy if we're out on a big trip then.

CoPilot Live is good.

It's ok, but they obviously haven't told Mr Siri how to pronounce things properly, eg he says 'Thame' with a th- sound, and whenever he says 'In a quarter of a mile' (which he does quite a lot) it sounds like 'Innerquarter'.

No biggie really but mildly annoying. Haven't used it for super-long journeys though.

I use copilot. It's ok. For some reason lately it's installed a supermarket trolley plugin to itself because it's stated doing all sorts of annoying unauthorised things like switching off the traffic service (which is indispensable anywhere near Edinburgh).
