Sky tv downgrading question

Ok , had my year half price sky which was ok value wise.

Now gone up to full price - eye watering £60/ month that we don't use to the full

Called sky, they can down grade the package taking off what we don't need but apparently we still need the hd pack to access the catch up services? That sounds a bit bullshit to me...anyway options are £50/ month ( from 60) or ditch tv and go to internet only ( happy with this and we need unlimited) for £25.

If we do the latter the box still function for free sat right? I've heard they try to charge you for this but shouldn't do so.. Is this correct?

You could just ring, make sure you get through to retentions and cancel the TV part of the package and get the MAC code to move your broadband; they will ring you back during the 30 day notice period and offer you a 6/12 month 75%/50% offer again (I have not paid full price for YEARS!)
When I rang to cancel at the start of Jan, the first offer was a similarly crappy "£47 down to £42" offer; we cancelled and 2 weeks later, have just started a 50% for 12 months deal (Entertainment Extra plus, which includes HD & box sets)

Or: if they don't call you back; got to freesat (sorry no advice on that as we always get rung back) and get a different internet provider if you wish.
Tesco are doing a 12 month deal - phone line, evening and weekend calls, free unlimited broadband for just the cost of the line rental (£15.40 a month) (But this particular offer is just 'til 31st Jan)

We ditched sky but still use the box (free view). If you do that have you thought about getting a now TV box thingy??? They're £9.99 and it's got catch up tv on it
