Can I hijack this thread and ask whether you can have a conditional formula to, for example, add up the contents of all cells coloured green?

Not (AFAIK) for all cells coloured green, but yes to all cells with (for example) numbers less than 50 in -- look at the SUMIF function.

Fantastic, il have a look! It's for my partners work project! He did ict to gcse and I did it to alevel, therefore he thinks I should know these things!

dont forget what colour you want 50 to be :)

For Cyber yes, sumif, or if you cant work that out, do a column that says =IF(ref

You can change the colour based on the value

But as far as I know you can't treat cells differently or do any calculations based on colour.
