Geeky stuff

porn on daughter's iphone and ipod.

Dd was given an iPhone by a paternal aunt. I checked it and under the advanced website there were some dubious websites porn stuff, fuckbuddy, local slags etc. Shock

Anyway, I deleted them, and gave the phone to dd. She is 13 and I check the phone randomly and months later there is lots of porn stuff on amongst other teenager stuff. I was devastated. I confronted her and she was devastated. Crying and adamant that she hasn't looked at anything like that. (She knows I check her phone)

The more I looked in to it, the websites are really obscure. You expect a curious child to type in stuff like sex, porn etc, but some of the stuff looks like someone knows what to look for or extensively looks. (Or maybe I'm naive)

I thought maybe that her auntie maybe still has some connection to the iPhone through iTunes??? Is that possible?

I then looked at her iPod and that was even worse, and her auntie has never had that. Very confused.

I kept hold of both for a few weeks. I deleted the stuff on her iPhone and no more have come on. I have kept hold of the iPod and it looks like more things have come on, but can't be sure as the list is very long and I may have just missed it originally.

However there is other things on there that are really Confused for a 13 year old to be looking at. Newspapers here, newspapers abroad, teacher website (she is an English teacher in a secondary school) and even Christian forums.

The other thing is, could it be related to her dad? He has iTunes and a iphone, would they maybe crossover? Or am I just clutching at straws? Sad

I should mention that she has an iTunes account too. If that might be relevant?

I know little about iphones (good solid android user here) but one of the things that put me off them were stories about peoples private photographs being uploaded to a family icloud.

Could be that she is accidentally sharing information with someone else in the family, or that she has been hacked and someone is using identical details for their own phone.

Maybe check her itunes account, see if there are any odd purchases.

It could also be some malware that keeps opening the same pornographic pages, in which case you might want to wipe the whole memory and start again.

Could also be her lending her phone to people she knows and them quickly searching sites to get her in trouble. My very straight laced brother was horrified to find that his internet search history was suddenly blossoming with pages for 'tasteful nudes', 'attractive young women' and 'beautiful females in appropriate settings'. Only a genius possessed of monstrous cunning could have made a list that sounded dirty, yet also believably appropriate to the character of the young gentleman in question. (IT WAS ME).

enlightenmequick · 24/11/2013 11:43

She is definitely not lending her phone out. I take it off her at 9pm (bedtime) and she doesn't get it back till she gets home from school, and we have recently moved, so she goes to a new school and doesn't know anyone in the area, so doesn't really go out at nights or weekends.

I'm hoping it is some cross over of her auntie (although, ergh at knowing she's watching webcams) and not her dad, because I will be a single parent before Christmas.

You need to do a hard reset on the phone rather than just deleting the stuff from the previous user.

This is how you restore it to factory settings

Then set up your own iTunes account in your name or your DD's name (I would recommend not adding a credit card though so that she has to buy the top up cards if she wants to buy stuff herself.)

If it carries on appearing, then the problem is someone in your own family and not the aunt. But I'd imagine it's the aunt's account which is automatically syncing stuff - she would have expected you to take that off and reset the phone (you would think she'd have done that herself, though!)

BertieBowtiesAreCool · 24/11/2013 11:57

Oh I see, hang on, she does have her own account and it's happening on the iPod as well. It does sound like the accounts have got linked somehow.

enlightenmequick · 24/11/2013 12:00

Thanks for the replies.

If they are linked in some way, can I get on her itunes /I cloud account and see? Is iTunes the same as I cloud?

BertieBowtiesAreCool · 24/11/2013 12:01

I would take it to your nearest apple store and see if they can advise you about the accounts being linked. It might be a bit embarassing but you won't lose her purchases etc that way. If she hasn't spent money on it then I'd wipe both devices and make her a brand new account.

enlightenmequick · 24/11/2013 12:06

Until I wrote the above post, I really did think it was the auntie, and I through dh in there as a vague possibility, but has it hasn't beeen completely given a definitely not, I'm quite interested to know if I can find out who it is before I reset.

Webcams, fuckbuddy and local slags are more than I will put up with.

I'd assume the iPhone and the iPod are on the same account, either intentionally or accidentally.

DDs and mine are all in the same one on purpose to share music, Aps and ibooks.

Also I made a balls up of setting up mine originally and seem to have two working Apple ids on my phone.

The one that didn't seem to work, does, because I have to enter it's password to update the original Angry birds which must have been the first thing I down loaded.

Everything else needs the password for my second attempt at getting fucking iTunes to work.

Therefore, I know iPods etc can be very odd. Throw in the cloud as well and they can be very very odd indeed.

(has it's uses as I know DD's have snapchat, kik and instagram accounts Wink)

MmeLindor · 24/11/2013 12:19

Do you mean in the history? ie the websites that she has looked at?

I don't see how that would be in any way connected to previous usage by her aunt, or by any synching of data/apps.

enlightenmequick · 24/11/2013 12:31

No Mme. There is nothing in the history. Even if you delete the history it shows up in a different place on the iPhone.

Go into settings, click safari, go to advanced and click and then click web usage data. All the websites that have been accessed will be listed in terms of data usuasge.

I just had a really good look, and there are web sites like betrad, male survivor, disqus.

Not sites for a 13 yr old and not sites my dh will frequent either. Confused

OP posts:
SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 24/11/2013 12:39

Disqus isn't a porn site, it's a commenting platform for blogs disqus.com/

I don't know much about iPhones, but is it possible no one has actually visited the sites you've found, but they are showing up because of adverts popups etc. on legitimate sites?

MortifiedAnyFuckerAdams · 24/11/2013 12:45

It is really quite odd. Im a total Apple novice so dont know whether it is linked but just hopibg that theres some kind of weird linkup going on and that it is with neither your dh or dd.

Could you ask DH for a loan of his phone as you think the two are linked and want to test it - his response could be very telling.

MmeLindor · 24/11/2013 12:47

Ah, ok. I understand now. I just had a look at mine, and there is nothing there that I haven't actually looked at.

Surely the only things on that would be websites accessed from the phone? How could that be synched from another phone?

Are you sure that no one else has been using the phone?

NoComet · 24/11/2013 12:51

Dodgy pop ups appear a lot on gossip blogs and image searches, which often also get you to blogs as people use web harvested pictures to illustrate their posts. Many blog sites put on their own ads. totally unrelated and often unsuited to what you are reading.

Even MN gets dodgy Google ads.

I've got all sorts looking for art work ideas for PTA posters, very bland searchers like you might do for HW bring up the oddest things.

Top ten lists are really awful, top ten beautiful hotel pools, leads to top 10 good looking blokes (just about OK at 13), but the ads. down the side aren't.

FunkyBoldRibena · 24/11/2013 12:54

I have an iphone, a macbook, an imac and an ipad. None of the sites on one cross over to the other. Sorry.

I have icloud and the photos and songs and documents cross over but none of the websites.

I think you are going to have to face it that your daughter is accessing those sites or sites that have popups to those sites.

MmeLindor · 24/11/2013 12:55

What does she look at when she is using the gadgets?

Does she read a lot of blogs?

enlightenmequick · 24/11/2013 12:55

Saskia, I know. Betrad is a betting site, male survivor is about men surviving child abuse anbd like you said disqus is a discussion site, so none of them would be something I'd expect did to be on, or my dh, which would suggest someone else.

Dh leaves his phone lying around all the time and I have the password. He is smarter than me though and will just delete hide, if I look anyway. I'm really not convinced it is him, based on some websites zambiantimes for instance!

I think it is aunty, and possibly uncle and cousin.

I have her iTunes password now, I'm going to try that.

OP posts:
enlightenmequick · 24/11/2013 12:57

She reads fan fiction. Ummmmm......

I have checked it though and it is harry potter stuff mostly

OP posts:
FunkyBoldRibena · 24/11/2013 12:59

How could it be auntie, uncle and cousin when they have never had the ipad?

NorksofPlenty · 24/11/2013 13:01

I've just checked my iPhone and some of the websites showing in advanced I definitely haven't looked at on my iPhone, but have looked at on my laptop so they must somehow be linked, presumably through my iTunes which is on my laptop. What computer is your daughters iTunes set up on? If it's the family computer which your dh also uses, then it's possible the history is his, or someone else who has access to that computer.

It does depend a lot on how it was set up and whether accounts were removed or a total reset was done, I know we have an android tablet which I had set up to my google account, then ended up swapping it for a laptop DP had (we were living in separate countries) and I thought he'd wiped it to set it up with his account, but it turned out he'd just deleted mine off the phone and put his on, and now they are weirdly linked but only on some devices - that tablet, and the laptop we both share, the Chome on that has somehow merged both of our bookmarks and histories for example.

I think that devices are made to link up in so many different ways that sometimes it's easy to do things accidentally and not realise you've done it, especially if you aren't technically minded or tend to just click through things without reading them properly (both could apply to your average 13 year old). Similarly the documentation for things is so minimal nowadays that it's possible to go through years of using technology without ever being aware that you can get something to do this when perhaps you would welcome it.

If I were you OP I would take it to a registered Apple support place as they are most likely to be able to tell you what's going on and how to fix it.

MmeLindor · 24/11/2013 13:02

Some of them do sound like the kind of sites that would advertise on blogs. Is it possible she is clicking by mistake and doesn't want to admit?

I got taken to a really euuugh site recently on a reputable blog.

Although it sounds like it is happening a lot, so perhaps you need to have a look at the sites that she is visiting.

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 24/11/2013 13:13

enlightenme Disqus isn't a discussion site. It's software that site owners can install to allow comments. Many bloggers also use it because it often has more functionality than built-in commenting systems. Your DD or DH wouldn't need to visit the Disqus site to have it appear in their history because it's installed on all sorts of perfectly innocent sites.

A lot of the other stuff you mention does sound like the kind of thing that turns up in ads.
