So I've saved up my pennies and got myself an iPhone. Now what to do with it?! What are your top recommendations for useful/fun/cool/kiddy/organisey Apps?
Thanks!

Kindle - which can be synced with your other Kindle devices; iPlayer; Amazon, Shazam...

MNet MOBILE is fine, haven't used the app but no-one seems to like it....

Remember you can simply click and keep your favourite sites on your homescreen - not just apps.

its limitless what you can get for a phone. browse the app store by category, put in search terms for what you are after, read some techsites, 9t05mac , macworld, arstechina are great ones.

download the 12days of xmas app, its apple giving away a free thing each day of xmas, not always the greatest of stuff, but its global so needs to be super pc, but they give you content that highlights different aspects of your phone and its functionality,

Btw
I posted the following on another thread It's only relevant if you care about privacy etc, so ignore if its not relevant .

FOR iOS7

PRIVACY

I recommend that anyone who is concerned about privacy and has Apple devices running iOS7 have a look at THIS LINK. It details how you can prevent pesky Apple and other apps accessing information about you.

Disclaimer, I am happy to have the above info corrected. I think its right but I am not at all an expert

Radioplayer or TuneIn radio. Allows you to access nearly all radio stations in the UK via DAB or online.

PersonalClown · 15/11/2013 21:51

Sorry posted too soon. It saves space as you don't need separate apps for different radio stations.

How do you put your favorite websites on the home screen?

Report
RussTDaviesBear · 17/11/2013 11:55

If you're on the mobile site ( which is far better than the app IMO) at the bottom of the screen there's a bar with icons - one is a box with an arrow pointing up (iOS7) or diagonally to the right (iOS6) Touch that and you get more icons, one of which is add to Home screen. When you select that one you'll get a flashing cursor so you can edit the name of the bookmark. I like to keep my names short because it has a habit of cutting out the middle to shorten, which I find annoying and you can't afaik edit it afterwards. (IOS7 seems to be better than 6 at giving it a sensible name to start with)
Then touch the Add button and the phone will add the bookmark icon to your last screen.

I can't see the little box with arrow, I know the one you mean though. I have ios7. Do you have to be on a certain page for it to appear?

Is the bar at the bottom there? It often auto hides when you're on a page, try touching the bottom of the screen to see if that brings it up.

If you're on the normal Safari site, not the mobile one, it's at the top of the page, to the left of the address bar

Ah thanks Russ. I was on Chrome rather than safari.

This is much better than the app. Thanks.

BBC and or met office, apple weather isn't very good here
Week cal (much nicer more flexible than built in calendar)

Ingenious if you have older DCs as it's a proper sociable multi player game, handy for restaurants and Drs. Likewise a free Othello is handy

Harbour master / flight control, old, simple fun. Don't ask for money need playing for hourse to earn coins.

Chuzzle for the same reason

A pod cast app (there are many).

I don't bother with radio because I have a dab radio in the kitchen, but I've heard tunein recommended before.

I'd love to say a TV listing ap, but they keep fucking about up dating them and making them shit to use.

A note keeping ap (again the installed one is too basic) I have note master, but I'm certain better ones are available now.

App shopper - app that shows all the deals on apps, including when they are free.

Apple store - which is different to the App store.. Apple store show all the gadgets available (cheaper elsewhere though) plus they give free apps exclusive to them.

If you use quidco, clicksnap and the quidco app

If you shop in tesco clubcard and grocery app

Starbucks app

If you let children use the phone, make sure your settings are set so you are logged out of the app store immediatly, and disable inapp purchases.

I have WeatherPro app -it's initially free but you can subscribe to get more features - it's only about £3.50 a year and I use it a lot - the forecast radar is great as you can see if the rain is going to get you or pass by!

I have the kindle app! also Bluefire, which is for reading the ebook format that our public library uses.

My favourite games on the phone (I have different ones on the iPad) are solebon solitaire, moxie2, Marple and wurdle. I also have the scrabble free app on there - I play Scrabble with DH, who is currently in halifax all week, mostly on the iPad, but the free app syncs with the iPad one so. I can check if DH has made a move at lunchtime!

Around me is useful to find cash points banks petrol stations, car parks etc when you're in a strange place

I use Old Money a lot when reading or watching historical stuff - it shows the value today of eg £5 in 1925.

My favourite todo app I've found so far is Clear, very simple to use and update

I also use the train times app a lot, especially the Next Train home feature for when I'm out shopping

I use Keeper for keeping a record of all my passwords. It's good because it syncs automatically between phone & iPad and I can share passwords with DH but it's a bit expensive with a sub for each device, so I'm on the lookout for a good cheaper one!

Agree on the Sky app. It's great for the remote recording. It's actually quicker to use the app rather that the actual Sky box.

Ooh thank you all. Fab suggestions. Now if only I had 30 minutes to myself to play with my phone and add them all...is there an app for that?!
