Can anyone suggest a wireless printer that isn't really expensive to run? it would mainly be to print out homework, tickets etc, rarely photos.

For occasional use, get a laser printer, not an inkjet. Laser printers don't clog if left unused for a while. They cost more to start with and the refills are quite expensive, but you don't have to refill them very often, so they don't cost any more overall and they are much less trouble.

eg. colour, black and white

I linked to a couple of possibilities, but it depends on your requirements. Do you need colour or would black and white do? Do you need a wireless printer? Does it need to be networked?

Generally anything by Dell, HP or Brother should be OK.

Hi - would prefer colour, and would need to be wireless, ideally to work from PC laptops and main Mac...

I have an HP CP1515N and it works really well. I expect the HP CP1025 would suit your needs. It comes about £50 cheaper than the "free" Dell I linked to earlier, but the Dell comes with 3 sets of toner and the HP will only come with "starter" cartridges, so in the long run the Dell is probably cheaper.

The Dell also looks bulkier, so you might want to look at space before making a decision.
