New iPad air, or wait for new mini ?

Dd's iPad needs updating. She has an original iPad, had it for years and it is now slow and clunky and has had the occasional blip/crash.

So, do I get her the new iPad air, or wait until later this month for the new mini? Is there any appreciable difference between the two apart from size?

Dd has motor issues, but I think would be fine with the slightly smaller screen size - can anyone think of a practical (ie not techy ) reason she should have the larger screen?

I have both sizes and in all honesty prefer my mini. It's just, er, neater somehow. Fits in my bag better, easier to hold with one hand to read not as heavy when I drop it on myself as I fall asleep reading Grin

thanks.

the weight is the main reason we're considering it for dd1. either way, it'll be ensconced in an Otterbox case, so adding to the weight a fair bit, but the lighter the better, really (although either are better than her original one for weight!)

unfortunately dd2 is now eyeing up the mini - we were in the Apple shop trying both out, and her face lit up - 'look mum, they've got a smaller one, just the right size for me!'. So if dd1's ipad gets upgraded, and we get her the mini, then dd2 will have huge mini envy, and probably strop about inheriting her sister's original ipad.... kids, eh?

they are both the same spec wise. I think the mini has a higher dpi than the air. So its down to preference and what and how it will be used. I would go for the air, just because it has a bigger screen it would be easier on the eyes after prolonged use

Sorry can't help too much but the new ipad mini has been released quietly on the apple website store.apple.com/uk/buy-ipad/ipad-mini-retina . So you can do a direct comparison between the air and mini
