Mac help PLEASE - ibooks syncing between devices

In the hope that someone has made more progress on this than me!

So, I have downloaded a whole lot of 'interactive ebooks' and PDFs onto my iPad. They don't come from the apple store - they're course material.

I had hoped that they'd automatically sync themselves onto my laptop, so I don't have to go through all the same kerfuffle again, but I just can't get them to.

So far I have

  • installed OS Maverick (or whatever it's called) so that I DO have ibooks on my laptop
  • installed IOS7 on the iPad
  • got all my syncing setup right (I think)

Now, on the laptop I can see the folder I set up to stick all these files in, but it's empty.

What do I need to do? I've wasted SO much time on this...

I think I've worked out the answer now: it's not possible, though it should be when an update/bug fix is released.

I hope!

ibooks is a native apple app it will only sync material from the ibooks store across all devices. for instances like this you are better off using dropbox or something like that.
