IPOD is showing in iTunes on new laptop but I can't add to/play any playlists

Have managed to copy over iTunes library onto new laptop. when my ipod nano is attached to the new laptop it shows up under devices and on the left of the screen all the playlists on the ipod are listed, however when I click on any of the ipod playlists the actual list of songs in each playlist appears in the centre of the screen but they are a faint grey colour and I am unable to play them. Can anyone help ? Thanks

At a guess (which could be wrong) the songs on your ipod are not in your itunes. Have you sync-ed it? (Click on the ipod in itunes and click sync)
