Need some help for editing PDF doc...

I have been sent a PDF file to edit but I can do it? I gather from the net I need to download a program to edit, but I don't want to pay for the adobe one when it's a one off! Any advice on free downloads or will I have to pay up?

If you have a Windows based computer, you could try using Inkscape (click the Download Now! link top right of the page).

Depending on what you actually need to edit, Inkscape may be enough - and it's free.

OpenOffice with Oracle PDF Import extension.

Here is a Video showing how to install the extension.

Once edited you need to EXPORT it as PDF rather than saving as saving will save it in an OpenOffice format, not PDF.

Having had a quick play, I feel OpenOffice is probably a bit easier. Not sure on filesize but it is probably quite big, so download over a broadband connection.

Another vote for Open Office! That's what I use, it's pretty easy to get the hang of. If you know how to edit text files you should find it intuitive.

Didn't know you could edit pdf files in Inkscape though

Indeed, SaskiaRVH... did not know there were any applications allowing edits to PDFs.

Best warn one of my clients - in the past they have sent out documents to clients, and then found that the client had made changes before submitting as evidence to a Public Inquiry... my client has then had to point out that their client had altered the report to and it was not what the original had said...

Way back, when those sorts of things were happening it was sent out as a printed document and a Word document was sent as well... was the Word doc being altered and printed as if it was what had been stated by my client, the 'expert witness'... so my client switched to PDFs to reduce the chance of manipulation... guess they will have to have holograms and stuff written in invisible ink in future !! :)

Can PDFs be protected. Might be an option in Adobe Accrobat?

As far as I know, you do need Acrobat to protect them. Even then, I think there are some unofficial pdf programmes that will override that.
