How do I get an iPad2 and an iPhone4 to Facetime each other?

Gawd, what an awkward thread title!

I have a phone number (obviously), but does my mum's iPad have a number too? How do I dial her??

It must be easy, but I cannot figure it out just using the usual Owner's Guide etc.

Please help, kind Geeks!

Ipods and Ipads should have an email attached to the Facetime account.

Beyond that I don't know as I haven't used it.
(I'm so much help!!)

Facetime account?? Where do I find that? An email address?

Dh's iPhone5 and my iPhone4 just facetime each other at tap of the appropriate 'button' on the screen.

The whole point of getting my mum an iPad was to allow her to see her GCs accross the Channel, but now we are failing at this technical hurdle.

I've just sat here with my iPad and iPhone and face timed myself! When I opened FaceTime on the iPad I "rang" my iPhone from my contacts list. Not sure how you dial directly if the number isn't saved in your contacts though.

Hmmm I have no idea how to FaceTime an iPad though because obviously my iPad doesn't have a phone number. You'll have to get her to add your phone number to her iPad contacts and then FaceTime you.

Add her e-mail address to her contact details on your iPhone. When you open the contact, press FaceTime. It will ask if you want to use a phone number or e-mail address. Click on the e-mail address and it should FaceTime your mum's iPad.

Ok, that makes sense... I think.
I have to go and check that her iPad has contacts - she hasn't really touched it yet in case it explodes or summat Grin. You know, newfangled things, they can be unpredictable and dangerous, just like wild animals...

Thanks, ohey, I'll try that tomorrow - that sounds eminently logical, thanks.

Your mum will also have to make sure she has FaceTime on on her lap top, and to pit the email address she wants to be contacted on in the Face Time Settings.

An iPad does have a 'phone' number if it has a sim card in, but you can't call it. Though I tried sending it a message from my iPhone which apparently went, but hasn't turned up. Then I sent one to my iPhone from the iPad, which arrived and I was able to reply from my phone to that message.

My mum does not have a laptop, well, not an Apple one anyway.
My parents use an elderly PC which works fine for their e-mail sending/booking Ryanair ticket needs Grin.

'Tis all v confusing and deeply upsetting that I find myself confuzzled by this technology - I thought I was quite with it... Hmm
