Planting nerine bulbs

I have some nerine bulbs I want to plant in the next few weeks but am a bit confused by conflicting information. I have bowdenii and nikita.

One pack of the bowdenii says do not allow direct sun to fall directly on the bulbs, but if I read my books is says they should be planted in direct sun.

Anyone any experience/advice?

I had a search on the RHS website for you but couldn't see anything, although I know that there was a Nerine special in The Garden not too long ago.

I've always assumed they love direct sun - the best local ones I know are against a south-facing wall.

Do they mean that quite literally, you shouldn't allow sun to fall on the bulbs, but that they should be kept wrapped up until planted?

Ah - hadn't thought of that. It may have lost something in the translation, as it also says "Please use a well draines soil" and "If planted in a pot, please protect for frost" ( sic ). They were a bargain....

Thanks for checking website, kind of you.
