Hi. Got some great advice on here a while back about my garden, but haven't followed it up yet as trying to find time/funds to sort the wilderness out

Just wondering if anyone could advise on my front garden, which I hope to start to doing a bit of work on myself, seeing as it is smaller and more manageable.

Firstly, anyone got any good reccomendations for how I can identify some of the plants? My neighbours have helped a bit, but there are still several plants I have no clue about and some that i am not sure are plants i want to keep or weeds.

Secondly, I have a large rosemary bush, a curry mint bush (I think? Neighbour reckons that's what it is) and MIL has just recently planted some oregano. No idea if it will flourish or what. Can i just plant any herbs I like close together? Will they be OK? I'd like to plant some lavender and some thyme next.

Lastly, the garden was planted years ago by previous owners. Thjy have done it really well. We have daffodils popping up in the early spring, bluebells and azalea (sp?) around now, and some other flowers appear later in the summer. I'd like to add to the seasonal displays, but not sure where to start?

And advice gratefully received.

Hi, there's a fab Virtual Garden application via the BBC's Gardening site. Lots of info on there too.

I've just ordered a stack of gardening books from Amazon - I noticed quite a few herby books, as well as garden design, what to plant where etc.

About the only herb you need to be careful with is mint, simply because it spreads quickly and may choke other plants. So plant it in a submerged pot. Lavender and thyme like to be warm and well-drained - do you have a sunny area to plant them in? As for filling the gaps, tell us more - size of bed, size of gap to be filled, whether sunny or shady etc etc!

Can you post pictures of your mystery plants? The combined forces of MN gardeners could then try to identify them!
